Regarding Walter Russell Mead’s “Germans See Affluence Ahead” (Global View, Oct. 18) and Joseph Sternberg’s “Germany Finally Says the F-Word: ‘Fracking’” (Political Economics, Oct. 7): My firm’s geologists had researched European shale resources. We estimated that, with fracking, Europe had about 700 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas, enough to power the continent for 50 years. I was asked to present this information to the energy-security-policy leadership (Energie Sicherheitsführung) of the German parliament in April 2006.

At the time Germany was already planning to expand its gas pipelines to Russia. That natural gas cost around $17 per million British thermal units, compared with a cost of $3 at home. I asked the leaders to imagine the positive effects of being able to power their economy from local resources and in that price range. Their faces showed stunned disbelief. As one of their Ph.D.s explained in German: “A Halliburton truck fracking on a German hill? Never, never!”

Following the meeting, they budgeted the princely sum of 300,000 euros to study what I had presented, but they decided to stick with the pipelines. The Germans can’t say they weren’t warned.

Oh for FUCK SAKE (a response to yet another anti-Semitic post in my discussion group, which you can join, see pinned message)

The creation of the state of Israel (1948), driven by the Belfour declaration (1917), was an opportunity for sure. The Ottomans empire was collapsing, and those in power wanted to create a situation where they could use a new colony, run by Jews, in their ancestral land. IT DOES NOT MEAN that the Jews who came to Israel had in mind any idea of anyone taking control over their lives, or that they agree with the idea of being run by a superpower. Remember - Jews lived under the control of others for about 2000 years at this point. The British than betrayed the declaration and created Jordan, and again, we need to go back in history and talk about A LOT of things. The story of the re-establishment of a Jewish state by the Jewish people for the 3rd time is way, way, WAY more complex than people want you to imagine, and most people have no clue about the population in Palestine pre-Jewish immigration, nor read Mark Twain's writings on his visit, nor even saw maps and paintings that were taken at that period. Huge amount of Muslim immigrants came into Palestine to work for the cultural development of the land that was driven by the Jewish immigrants, that didn't had enough force labour to process the land, because it was almost empty. Look for the old map created by the British, with all the villages and their sizes. Most of the country was empty, small villages here and there, and most of the population was in the big cities.

I can write and talk for hours on the subject, but I stop here. I wrote the above to demonstrate that there is huge problem which is ignorance, and combine that with a bias against Jews, many cultural, this ends up with people who go and continue to say "Oh, look at Israel. It's EVIL!". And since Israel is the land of the Jews, it means Jews are Evil. Do you know what it was to be a Jew without a land for 2000 years? You have no idea what it means to carry that feeling, and to grow as a Jew in such environment. Woke people get horrified if someone does not address their preferred pronoun, while Jews had to suffer being called by others with preferred pronouns which they never agreed to. I will spare you the list. Do you forget the years of antisemitism? The pogroms started at 1821, and created huge impact on the Jewish communities around the world. It caused immigration of Jews to the US, because there was no other country they could go to that offered any sense of Freedom.

Freedom is what led the Jews to Israel, not the Rockefellers.

The state of Israel has made many mistakes and sometimes hurt the innocents. I do not disagree on it, but so does any of the states our ancestral heritage are from, depending how long you want to go back. Trying to play a blame game instead of focusing on what's going on is not trying to live a life of truth. Truth is in the now, and in this now the citizens of Israel, with a majority of Jews, are as enslaved to a One World Order like the citizens of all other countries. Can we stop the hate, please?

Antisemitism is driven by fear. There are no fears in the now.

I think it is much worse than the video portrait. I think the reason they stopped the owner of the car is because she is registered in their system as someone who was against the lockdown. I think it makes more sense, as I think it is more likely the police all around the world has updated their systems to include any of such activities as a form of extremism.

And yet, even though we already see the impact of the system on Chinese citizens, even though our central banks has all declared intention of implementing it, and even though our governments has been doing everything they can to devalue our currencies, destroy our economies, destroy our fabric of society, and create a condition in which the lower and middle class will be destroyed by hyperinflation so that their CBDC will be introduce as a measure of saving us rather than enslaving us, I see almost no discussion about the implications and dangers of CBDC by my esteemed colleagues in privacy and cybersecurity.

THIS SHOULD BE THE TOPIC ALL OF US SPEAK ABOUT RIGHT NOW. THIS IS ABOUT OUR FUTURE AND THE FUTURE OF THE GENERATIONS TO COME. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE EXPERTS AND YET WE KEEP SILENT!

Where is everyone? Why is there total silence? Is that because thought leaders in privacy and cybersecurity do not understand what is about to be installed upon us? Are they aware but too afraid to speak because they fear it would impact their careers? What would it take for the people in our professional communities to take a stand and fight for our freedom and privacy instead of acting as if the upcoming digitized hell-on-earth has nothing to do with our profession?

If you want to live in a free world, if you work in privacy and/or cybersecurity, and if you are not standing up against CBDC and the tyranny it will bring upon yourself and fellow human being, you are part of the problem, and history, as well as your children and grandchildren, will never going to forget the darkness you allowed to be installed upon humanity. Being a pro-#CBDC means being anti-democracy, anti-freedom, anti-privacy. If this is who you are, please keep silent. If this is not what your values are, your time of speaking up is running out, fast.

In 1997, Frank Furedi published a book called Culture of Fear. It was widely acclaimed as perceptive and prophetic. Now Furedi returns to his original theme, as most of what he predicted has come true.

In this new book, Furedi seeks to explain two interrelated themes: why has fear acquired such a morally commanding status in society today and how has the way we fear today changed from the way that it was experienced in the past? He explores key moments in the history of fear to help situate the workings of this emotion in contemporary society.

Furedi argues that one of the main drivers of the culture of fear is unraveling of moral authority. Fear appears to provide a provisional solution to moral uncertainty and is for that reason embraced by a variety of interests, parties, and individuals. Furedi predicts that until society finds a more positive orientation towards uncertainty the politicization of fear will flourish.

Fear has become a problem in its own right to the extent that people now use the term "culture of fear" as an everyday idiom. It has become detached from its material and physical source and experienced as a secular version of a transcendental force. So now fear has become a "Perspective" accepted throughout society. Furedi claims that this perspective has acquired a dominant status because in contrast to other options it appears to be singularly effective in influencing people's behavior.

Society is trained to believe that the threats it faces are incalculable and cannot be controlled or regulated. The acceptance of this outlook has been paralleled by the cultivation of helplessness and passivity--all this has resulted in a redefinition of personhood. As a consequence we are constantly searching for new forms of security, both physical and ontological. What is the role of the media in promoting fear and who actually benefits from this culture of fear? These are some of the issues Furedi tackles and much more.
