Take as old as time if you ask me. This is partially a vent post, so expect some anger. I can’t be the only one who feels this, and even if I am I really don’t care. I can’t keep quiet about it anymore. Title is a bit of a reduction but I think most of us possess the critical thinking to understand what I’m saying. When I joined this subreddit, all I wanted was a safe space to discuss nuanced issues that relate to our experience as women/non-men. A place where we can confide our fears, struggles, and inquiries without fear of retribution. To be able to share our stories and information to help other people avoid our traumas. Of course welcome to all genders, but above all making sure that women and non men have a voice in a world that tries to silence them. Sure, it’s the internet, there are going to be trolls in all corners. But I’m so sick of seeing amazing with incredible insight and talking points, just to scroll down and see edit at the bottom; always saying something like “yeah I didn’t mean ‘all men’ when I said ‘men’, please stop sending me hate comments.” That lights so much anger in me, on behalf of both the poster and my own former experiences with nitpicking men. At this point, I use those edits as an indication of a good post. If it upset the grown up infants on this subreddit, 9.99/10 it had a great take. What really set this off for me was a post made recently about how someone felt it was a red flag when a man said he wanted kids without indicating interest in the parenting aspect or concern for pregnancy could mean in terms of his future partners health. I’m in the U.S., the government just over turned Roe v. Wade, people with uterus’s (majority women) are pretty concerned about their reproductive rights, and are (wisely) choosing partners that understand the risk, physical toll, and respect the autonomy of their partner. OP was super respectful but clearly upset by recent conversations. I totally agreed with their talking points, as did most of the non-men in the comments. So what did the wonderful allies of this subreddit decide to do to understand OPs perspective and fears? They sent comments picking OP to pieces, private messages harassing them. Two obligatory ‘I’m sorry you put yourself in a space that wasn’t made to you and got your feeling a hurt’ edits later, OPs post and profile was gone. They chased an already frustrated, upset non-man away from a ‘safe’ space that was created FOR THEM. And by the way, to any of you who read this post and get offended bc they think it’s about them: IT IS. If you are truly feeling called out by this post, maybe that’s because you’re in need of some self discovery. Do some self work or gtfo of this subreddit. I don’t think this posts violates any rules, but I’m not sure. If mods have an issue with this post, fine. But there needs to be some level of acknowledgement. It’s a problem.
