*High school algebra & math classes aren’t “pointless” and people who say “I’ll never need to know this in real life” don’t know what they’re talking about*

Part of the point of education isn’t just “you might major in this subject, so here’s a head start on it” — if that were the case, then yeah, like 80% of education would be “pointless” — it’s also to help you expand your mind in ways that will be helpful at some point in your future. And also, ya know, to help you learn that sometimes you’ll be asked to do something in life even if you don’t understand why it’s necessary. Imagine your boss asks you to do something and you respond with “sorry but I just don’t see how this is relevant to my future so I’m not gonna do it.” And a unique lesson you’ll learn from math that you probably won’t learn from most other classes is that there will be times in life where you can bluff your way through, or get by purely on effort, but there will be other times where there will be a correct way or an incorrect way of doing something and there’s just no getting around it. If there are any high schoolers reading this or anyone who’s taking a math class and wondering “when will I ever need to know this in REAL life?” the answer to that question is: RIGHT NOW!
