Can someone help me understand the Dewar form for Benzene? I’m very confused

I’m confused about the Dewar form for Benzene. Our professor asked if Carbon attached to the long bond is sp2 or sp3 hybridized. He said it can’t be sp3 because then it wouldn’t be resonance. So why is it sp2 if there are 4 bonds? I’m really confused someone help. He said that it’s a pi bond, but how can u have a pi bond without a sigma bond? Furthermore, where do those electrons actually come from because you can’t take electrons from a sigma bond? https://enacademic.com/pictures/enwiki/68/Dew...
