1 IntroductionIl ne sera pas traité ici de l’&#8239;ensemble du dossier concernant ceux que Julius Wellhausen (1844-1918) appela autrefois&#8239;: «&#8239;les chercheurs&#8239;» [de Dieu] (<em>Sucher</em>)<a href="https://brill.com/view/book/edcoll/9789004427952/BP000018.xml#FN000821">1</a> ou les «&#8239;pieux dissidents&#8239;» ([<em>die</em>] <em>frommen Dissenters</em>).<a href="https://brill.com/view/book/edcoll/9789004427952/BP000018.xml#FN000822">2</a> Cela fut exprimé avec beaucoup d’&#8239;à propos, tout au moins à l’&#8239;intérieur d’&#8239;un certain contexte qui n’&#8239;est pas directement celui du texte coranique, tel qu’&#8239;il nous a été transmis à travers les avatars que l’&#8239;on sait.<a href="https://brill.com/view/book/edcoll/9789004427952/BP000018.xml#FN000823">3</a> La notion de dissidence est idoine, car l’&#8239;une des idées générales renfermée dans <em>&#7717;an&#299;f</em> en arabe est&#8239;: «&#8239;qui a les pieds en lanières, ne se tient pas sur ses jambes, et qui pour ainsi dire boite&#8239;» (<em>loripes fuit</em>… <em>ac tanquam claudicavit</em>), d’&#8239;où vient l’&#8239;idée d’&#8239;être instable ou inconstant dans ses idées.<a href="https://brill.com/view/book/edcoll/9789004427952/BP000018.xml#FN000824">4</a> Wellhausen pensait que c’&#8239;est de certains de ces personnages marqués par les ascètes chrétiens, peut-être chrétiens eux-mêmes, que Mu&#7717;ammad reçut ses premières impulsions (<em>seine ersten Anregungen</em>), alors qu’&#8239;il était encore à la Mecque. De fait, celui qui s’&#8239;établit progressivement prophète, et/ou qu’&#8239;on créa peu à peu prophète, se manifesta d’&#8239;abord avec l’&#8239;idée du jugement&#8239;: «&#8239;Allah et le jour du jugement dernier sont chez lui inséparable&#8239;».<a href="https://brill.com/view/book/edcoll/9789004427952/BP000018.xml#FN000825">5</a> Pour le &#7717;an&#299;fisme des ennemis de Mu&#7717;ammad et celui de la Mecque avant l’&#8239;hégire, on se reportera à l’&#8239;étude d’&#8239;Uri Rubin qui a introduit beaucoup de clarté à ce sujet.<a href="https://brill.com/view/book/edcoll/9789004427952/BP000018.xml#FN000826">6</a> Plus récemment, Jan Van Reeth a essayé de retrouver les antécédents des prophéties oraculaires de Mu&#7717;ammad chez Montan et Mani. Grâce à cette étude, nous avons une idée plus nette des origines et de la nature du «&#8239;&#7717;an&#299;fisme mitigé&#8239;» (<em>al-&#7717;an&#299;fiyya al-sam&#7717;a</em>) qui aurait été celui de Mu&#7717;ammad.<a href="https://brill.com/view/book/edcoll/9789004427952/BP000018.xml#FN000827">7</a>Dans la présente contribution, nous nous concentrerons sur trois points. Tout d’&#8239;abord l’&#8239;ambivalence, voire l’&#8239;ambiguïté cultivée, du terme <em>&#7717;an&#299;f</em> dans le Coran. Notre deuxième objectif sera de montrer que le Coran utilise souvent ce vocable dans un contexte polémique pour asseoir et enraciner le quasi postulat du «&#8239;monoprophétisme&#8239;» de Mu&#7717;ammad. Enfin il apparaîtra que ce mot énantiosémique ressortit à un phénomène bien connu des linguistes&#8239;: la contamination ou analogie linguistique, ce qu’&#8239;avait bien vu l’&#8239;excellent sémitisant qu’&#8239;était le Père Paul Joüon, s. j.
