*surah Al maryam (mary)*
Quran 19 chapter 98 verse↘️

Kãf-Ha-Ya-’Aĩn- Ṣãd. (1) This is˺ a reminder of your Lord’s mercy to His servant Zachariah, (2)when he cried out to his Lord privately, (3) saying, “My Lord! Surely my bones have become brittle, and grey hair has spread across my head, but I have never been disappointed in my prayer to You, my Lord! (4)And I am concerned about ˹the faith of˺ my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So grant me, by Your grace, an heir, (5)who will inherit ˹prophethood˺ from me and the family of Jacob, and make him, O Lord, pleasing ˹to You˺!”(6)The angels announced,˺ “O Zachariah! Indeed, We give you the good news of ˹the birth of˺ a son, whose name will be John—a name We have not given to anyone before.”(7)He wondered, “My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren, and I have become extremely old?”(8)An angel replied, “So will it be! Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, just as I created you before, when you were nothing!’”(9)Zachariah said, “My Lord! Grant me a sign.” He responded, “Your sign is that you will not ˹be able to˺ speak to people for three nights, despite being healthy.”(10)So he came out to his people from the sanctuary, signalling to them to glorify ˹Allah˺ morning and evening.(11)It was later said,˺ “O John! Hold firmly to the Scriptures.” And We granted him wisdom while ˹he was still˺ a child,(12)as well as purity and compassion from Us. And he was God-fearing,(13)and kind to his parents. He was neither arrogant nor disobedient. (14) Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day of his death, and the day he will be raised back to life!(15)And mention in the Book ˹O Prophet, the story of˺ Mary when she withdrew from her family to a place in the east,(16)screening herself off from them. Then We sent to her Our angel, ˹Gabriel,˺ appearing before her as a man, perfectly formed.(17)She appealed, “I truly seek refuge in the Most Compassionate from you! ˹So leave me alone˺ if you are God-fearing.”(18)He responded, “I am only a messenger from your Lord, ˹sent˺ to bless you with a pure son.”(19)She wondered, “How can I have a son when no man has ever touched me, nor am I unchaste?”(20)He replied, “So will it be! Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me. And so will We make him a sign for humanity and a mercy from Us.’ It is a matter ˹already˺ decreed.”(21)So she conceived him and withdrew with him to a remote place.(22)Then the pains of labour drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She cried, “Alas! I wish I had died before this, and was a thing long forgotten!”(23)So a voice1 reassured her from below her, “Do not grieve! Your Lord has provided a stream at your feet.[_This was the voice of baby Jesus. Some say it was Gabriel._]
(24)And shake the trunk of this palm tree towards you, it will drop fresh, ripe dates upon you.(25)So eat and drink, and put your heart at ease. But if you see any of the people, say, ‘I have vowed silence*1* to the Most Compassionate, so I am not talking to anyone today.’”
[lit., fast ˹from speech˺. Linguistically, ṣawm means to abstain from something, such as food, speaking, and playing.] (26) Then she returned to her people, carrying him. They said ˹in shock˺, “O Mary! You have certainly done a horrible thing!(27)O sister of Aaron!*1* Your father was not an indecent man, nor was your mother unchaste.” [i.e., his twin in virtue. They meant that they did not expect her to do something like that because they held her in high esteem like Aaron, Moses’ brother (perhaps because she was his descendant).] (28)So she pointed to the baby. They exclaimed, “How can we talk to someone who is an infant in the cradle?”(29)Jesus declared, “I am truly a servant of Allah. He has destined me to be given the Scripture and to be a prophet.(30)He has made me a blessing wherever I go, and bid me to establish prayer and give alms-tax as long as I live,(31)and to be kind to my mother. He has not made me arrogant or defiant.(32)Peace be upon me the day I was born, the day I die, and the day I will be raised back to life!”(33)That is Jesus, son of Mary.
˹And this is˺ a word of truth, about which they dispute.(34)It is not for Allah to take a son! Glory be to Him. When He decrees a matter, He simply tells it, “Be!” And it is!(35)Jesus also declared,˺ “Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him ˹alone˺. This is the Straight Path.”(36)Yet their ˹various˺ groups have differed among themselves ˹about him˺, so woe to the disbelievers when they face a tremendous Day!(37)How clearly will they hear and see on the Day they will come to Us! But today the wrongdoers are clearly astray.(38)And warn them ˹O Prophet˺ of the Day of Regret, when all matters will be settled, while they are ˹engrossed˺ in heedlessness and disbelief.(39)Indeed, it is We Who will succeed the earth and whoever is on it. And to Us they will ˹all˺ be returned.(40)And mention in the Book ˹O Prophet, the story of˺ Abraham. He was surely a man of truth and a prophet.(41)˹Remember˺ when he said to his father, “O dear father! Why do you worship what can neither hear nor see, nor benefit you at all?(42)O dear father! I have certainly received some knowledge which you have not received, so follow me and I will guide you to the Straight Path.(43) O dear father! Do not worship Satan. Surely Satan is ever rebellious against the Most Compassionate.(44)O dear father! I truly fear that you will be touched by a torment from the Most Compassionate, and become Satan’s companion ˹in Hell˺.”(45)He threatened, “How dare you reject my idols, O Abraham! If you do not desist, I will certainly stone you ˹to death˺. So be gone from me for a long time!”(46)Abraham responded, “Peace be upon you! I will pray to my Lord for your forgiveness. He has truly been Most Gracious to me.(47)As I distance myself from ˹all of˺ you and from whatever you invoke besides Allah, I will ˹continue to˺ call upon my Lord ˹alone˺, trusting that I will never be disappointed in invoking my Lord.”(48)So after he had left them and what they worshipped besides Allah, We granted him Isaac and Jacob, and made each of them a prophet.(49)We showered them with Our mercy, and blessed them with honourable mention.*1*[On a daily basis, Muslims invoke Allah’s blessings upon Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) and his family and Prophet Abraham (ﷺ) and his family, in both obligatory and optional prayers.](50) And mention in the Book ˹O Prophet, the story of˺ Moses. He was truly a chosen man, and was a messenger and a prophet.(51)We called him from the right side of Mount Ṭûr, and drew him near, speaking ˹with him˺ directly.(52)And We appointed for him—out of Our grace—his brother, Aaron, as a prophet.(53)And mention in the Book ˹O Prophet, the story of˺ Ishmael. He was truly a man of his word, and was a messenger and a prophet.(54)He used to urge his people to pray and give alms-tax. And his Lord was well pleased with him.(55)And mention in the Book ˹O Prophet, the story of˺ Enoch. He was surely a man of truth and a prophet.(56)And We elevated him to an honourable status.*1*[Prophet Enoch (Idrîs) (ﷺ) is said to be in the fourth heaven.](56) Those were ˹some of˺ the prophets who Allah has blessed from among the descendants of Adam, and of those We carried with Noah ˹in the Ark˺, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel,*1* and of those We ˹rightly˺ guided and chose. Whenever the revelations of the Most Compassionate were recited to them, they fell down, prostrating and weeping.[Israel is another name for Jacob (ﷺ).](58) But they were succeeded by generations who neglected prayer and followed their lusts and so will soon face the evil consequences.*1*[The word ghai can either mean the evil consequences or a valley in Hell where they will be punished.] (59)As for those who repent, believe, and do good, it is they who will be admitted into Paradise, never being denied any reward.(60)˹They will be in˺ the Gardens of Eternity, promised in trust by the Most Compassionate to His servants. Surely His promise will be fulfilled.(61)There they will never hear any idle talk—only ˹greetings of˺ peace. And there they will have their provisions morning and evening.
*1*[There is no day or night in Paradise, only light. The verse says that the residents of Paradise will either be receiving provisions around these worldly times or without failure. Words such as morning and evening are used to make it easier for the people to understand.](62) That is Paradise, which We will grant to whoever is devout among Our servants. (63)We only descend by the command of your Lord. To Him belongs whatever is before us, and whatever is behind us, and everything in between. And your Lord is never forgetful.(64)He is the˺ Lord of the heavens, and the earth, and everything in between. So worship Him ˹alone˺, and be steadfast in His worship. Do you know of anyone equal to Him ˹in His attributes˺?”(65)Yet ˹some˺ people ask ˹mockingly˺, “After I die, will I really be raised to life again?”(66)Do ˹such˺ people not remember that We created them before, when they were nothing?(67)By your Lord ˹O Prophet˺! We will surely gather them along with the devils, and then set them around Hell on their knees.(68)Then We will certainly begin by dragging out of every group the ones most defiant to the Most Compassionate.(69)And We truly know best who is most deserving of burning in it.(70)There is none of you who will not pass over it.*1* ˹This is˺ a decree your Lord must fulfil.[This refers to the bridge (known as Aṣ-Ṣirâṭ) which is extended over Hell. Both the believers and disbelievers will be made to cross that bridge. The believers will cross it safely, each at a different speed according to the strength of their faith, whereas the disbelievers and the hypocrites will plunge into the Fire](71) Then We will deliver those who were devout, leaving the wrongdoers there on their knees.(72)When Our clear revelations are recited to them, the disbelievers ask the believers ˹mockingly˺, “Which of the two of us is better in status and superior in assembly?”(73)˹Imagine, O Prophet˺ how many peoples We have destroyed before them, who were far better in luxury and splendour!(74)Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Whoever is ˹entrenched˺ in misguidance, the Most Compassionate will allow them plenty of time, until—behold!—they face what they are threatened with: either the torment or the Hour. Only then will they realize who is worse in position and inferior in manpower.”(75)And Allah increases in guidance those who are ˹rightly˺ guided. And the everlasting good deeds are far better with your Lord in reward and in outcome.*1*[ See footnote for 18:46.](76) Have you seen ˹O Prophet˺ the one1 who rejects Our revelations yet boasts, “I will definitely be granted ˹plenty of˺ wealth and children ˹if there is an afterlife˺.”?(77)Has he looked into the unseen or taken a pledge from the Most Compassionate?(78)Not at all! We certainly record whatever he claims and will increase his punishment extensively.(79)And We will inherit what he boasts of, and he will come before Us all by himself.(80)They have taken other gods, instead of Allah, seeking strength ˹and protection˺ through them.(81)But no! Those ˹gods˺ will deny their worship and turn against them.(82)Do you ˹O Prophet˺ not see that We have sent the devils against the disbelievers, constantly inciting them?(83)So do not be in haste against them, for indeed We are ˹closely˺ counting down their days.(84)˹Watch for˺ the Day We will gather the righteous before the Most Compassionate as an honoured delegation,(85)and drive the wicked to Hell like a thirsty herd.(86)None will have the right to intercede, except those who have taken a covenant from the Most Compassionate.*1*[No one will be allowed to intercede except those who firmly believe in Almighty Allah.](87)They *1* say, “The Most Compassionate has offspring.”[The pagans who claimed that the angels are Allah’s daughters, the Christians who claim that Jesus is the son of Allah, etc.] (88) You have certainly made an outrageous claim,(89)by which the heavens are about to burst, the earth to split apart, and the mountains to crumble to pieces(90)in protest of attributing children to the Most Compassionate.
(91)It does not befit ˹the majesty of˺ the Most Compassionate to have children.(92)There is none in the heavens or the earth who will not return to the Most Compassionate in full submission.(93)Indeed, He fully knows them and has counted them precisely.(94)And each of them will return to Him on the Day of Judgment all alone.(95)As for those who believe and do good, the Most Compassionate will ˹certainly˺ bless them with ˹genuine˺ love.(96)Indeed, We have made this ˹Quran˺ easy in your own language ˹O Prophet˺ so with it you may give good news to the righteous and warn those who are contentious.(97)˹Imagine˺ how many peoples We have destroyed before them! Do you ˹still˺ see any of them, or ˹even˺ hear from them the slightest sound? (98)

FRIDAY KHUTBA (02-01-2026) 🇦🇪🎙️

*The Prophetic Wisdom*

*The First Khutbah*

All praise is due to Allah, the Most Generous, the Bestower of all blessings. He has endowed our Prophet ﷺ with Jawami' al-Kalim (the most comprehensive of speech). We bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, alone without partner, and we bear witness that our prophet Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. May Allah’s peace, blessings, and mercy be upon him, his family, his companions, and all those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Account.

To proceed: O servants of Allah, I advise you and myself to have Taqwa of Allah. Allah, the Exalted, says in His Noble Book:

O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

O Believers: At the beginning of a new year, we welcome its days with hearts full of optimism and hope. We ask Allah the Almighty to make it a year abundant in goodness, success, and prosperity for us, our families, our society, our nation, and our wise leadership.

Indeed, the most noble matter a person should attend to at the start of this year is to examine the state of their faith. It is a time to renew the covenant of obedience to one’s Lord and to follow the guidance of His Prophet ﷺ, whom Allah testified by His saying: ﴿وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَى﴾

Nor does he speak from [his own] desire.

His words regarding religion are a revelation, and a light by which we are guided. They are a source of guidance and wisdom that revives hearts and directs minds toward what is right.

He is the one to whom his Lord said: ﴿وَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ﴾

“And Allah has sent down to you the Book and the Wisdom”. Allah supported him with eloquence of speech, richness of expression, and power of articulation; and He surrounded the Prophet’s sayings with strict principles of preservation and comprehensive standards of verification. Hence, Heﷺ warned, saying: «مَنْ حَدَّثَ عَنِّي بِحَدِيثٍ ‌يُرَى ‌أَنَّهُ ‌كَذِبٌ فَهُوَ ‌أَحَدُ ‌الْكَاذِبِينَ»

“Whoever narrates a Hadeeth from me which he believes to be a lie, then he is one of the liars.

Indeed, people have never heard words spoken by any human being that are more beneficial than his words, nor more precise in expression, nor more eloquent in delivery, nor clearer in proof, nor loftier in purpose, nor nobler in aim, nor deeper in meaning, nor more complete in intellect, nor more impactful upon souls than his words.

And as our beloved Prophet, who is dearer to me than my own parents, peace and blessings be upon Him, said: «أُوتِيتُ جَوَامِعَ الْكَلِمِ»

“I have been given Jawami' al-Kalim (the most comprehensive of speech).” He ﷺ used to encompass vast meanings within simple words and encapsulate great wisdom in short phrases. He laid the foundations of supreme values in just a few words.

Thus, his noble Hadiths gathered the principles of faith, the universals of ethics, and the greatest values that establish the pillars of a community, one that is distinguished by its cohesion and refined in its character.

O Servants of Allah: Among the comprehensive wisdom of Prophetic guidance is the saying of the Prophet ﷺ:

The strong person is not the one who can wrestle others to the ground. Rather, the strong person is the one who controls himself at the time of anger.

Thus, the true measure of strength does not lie in retaliation or hostilities; rather, it manifests in rising above mistreatment. One of the wise men was once asked, Who is the bravest of men? He replied: The one who repels ignorance with his forbearance.

This is the path our Prophet ﷺ directed us toward.
A man once said: O Messenger of Allah, I have relatives with whom I try to keep in touch, but they cut me off. I treat them kindly, but they mistreat me. I am forbearing with them, but they act ignorantly toward me.

If you are as you say, it is as if you are feeding them hot ashes (as a consequence of their actions), and you will continue to have a supporter from Allah against them as long as you remain so.

Indeed, you earn divine support through the nobility of your stances, the excellence of your dealings, the restraint of your actions, and the suppression of your rage. The Prophet ﷺ said:

Whoever restrains his anger while he can act upon it, Allah will call him before all of creation on the Day of Resurrection and allow him to choose whichever of the Hoor al-Ayn (maidens of Paradise) he wishes.Morals serve as a safety barrier, granting a person a stance of piety and insight. Among the profound teachings of our Prophet ﷺ is his saying: «الْبِرُّ حُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ».

Righteousness is good character.

A believer is one of good character; he does not slander or wound, nor does he act wickedly or ignorantly. The Prophet ﷺ said: «‌لَيْسَ ‌الْمُؤْمِنُ ‌بِالطَّعَّانِ وَلَا اللَّعَّانِ وَلَا الْفَاحِشِ وَلَا الْبَذِيءِ».

The believer is not a slanderer, nor one who curses, nor is he obscene or foul-mouthed.

Allah, the Exalted, says: ﴿

O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.

I say these words of mine, and I seek forgiveness from Allah for myself and for you, so seek His forgiveness.

*The Second Khutbah*

All praise is due to Allah, who sent to us His Noble Prophet with upright guidance and wise speech. O Allah, send Your peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions.

To proceed, O Believers: One of the requirements of wisdom and its greatest manifestations in a believer's conduct is to hold one's homeland in high esteem, recognize the importance of its stability, take pride in the stances of its leadership, and acknowledge its virtues and abundant blessings. This is an authentic character trait and a noble path advocated by the comprehensive Prophetic wisdom in his ﷺ saying: «‌مَنْ ‌أَصْبَحَ ‌مِنْكُمْ آمِنًا فِي ‌سِرْبِهِ، مُعَافىً فِي جَسَدِهِ، عِنْدَهُ قُوتُ يَوْمِهِ، فَكَأَنَّمَا حِيزَتْ لَهُ الدُّنْيَا»

Whoever among you wakes up secure in his property (or community), healthy in his body, and having his daily bread, it is as if the entire world has been gathered for him.

The Prophet ﷺ elevated the status of the homeland and its security, as well as the importance of unity around it. He emphasised adhering firmly to it and holding fast to its bond in times of hardship and ease. He made rallying around its leadership inseparable from prayer and zakah, stating in a comprehensive exhortation:

Fear your Lord, pray your five daily prayers, fast your month (Ramadan), pay the Zakat on your wealth, and obey those in authority over you; you will enter the Paradise of your Lord..

This is among the greatest assemblies of Prophetic wisdom through which public interests are organized. Obedience to the ruler serves as a protective fence for worship and a means to enter Paradise. Therefore, whoever supports the stances of his leadership and upholds the covenant of his homeland has completed the string of faith.
Thus, the Comprehensive of speech (Jawami’ al-Kalim) was manifested in the guidance of the Prophet ﷺin his words, actions, and supplications, to present the most sophisticated models of conduct. Glad tidings be to those who understand his guidance ﷺ, make it their lifelong companion, and teach it to their children.

O believers send blessings upon the Prophet and salute him with full salutations. O Allah, send blessings, peace, and grace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his pure and noble family. O Allah, be pleased with Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, and ʿAlī, and with all the honourable Companions.

O Allah, we call upon You with the supplication of Your Prophet ﷺ. We ask You for all goodness, its immediate and its deferred, what we know of it and what we do not know; and we seek refuge in You from all evil, its immediate and its deferred, what we know of it and what we do not know.

O Allah, we ask You for Paradise and for whatever brings one closer to it of word or deed, and we seek refuge in You from the Fire and from whatever brings one closer to it of word or deed. O Allah, whatever decree You have ordained for us, make its outcome good for us.

O Allah, make us believers through You, worshippers devoted to You, followers of the guidance of our Prophet, people who make good use of our new year, dutiful to our parents; and have mercy upon them as they raised us when we were young, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

O Allah, protect the State of the United Arab Emirates with Your protection; care for it with Your guardianship; surround it with Your providence; perpetuate its unity and compassion, its stability and prosperity; and shield it from the envy of the envious, the schemes of the schemers, the aggression of the aggressors, and the evil of enemies and the spiteful, O Lord of the worlds.

O Allah, protect Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the President of the State; grant him continued success, support, and sound judgment; and grant success to him, his deputies, his brothers, the Rulers of the Emirates, and his trustworthy Crown Prince, in that which You love and are pleased with. O Allah, have mercy upon Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Rashid, and all the sheikhs of the Emirates who have passed to Your mercy; admit them by Your grace into the vastness of Your gardens; and encompass the martyrs of the nation with Your mercy and forgiveness.

O Allah, have mercy upon the Muslim men and Muslim women, the living among them and the deceased.

O Allah, grant us rain and do not make us among the despairing. O Allah, send us relief; O Allah, send us relief; O Allah, send us relief.

Servants of Allah: remember Allah, the Great and Majestic, He will remember you; give thanks to Him for His blessings, He will increase you. And establish the prayer
O Prophet!˺ Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do.
*Surah Al Noor 24 :30*

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments1 except what normally appears.2 Let them draw their veils over their chests, and not reveal their ˹hidden˺ adornments3 except to their husbands, their fathers, their fathers-in-law, their sons, their stepsons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons or sisters’ sons, their fellow women, those ˹bondwomen˺ in their possession, male attendants with no desire, or children who are still unaware of women’s nakedness. Let them not stomp their feet, drawing attention to their hidden adornments. Turn to Allah in repentance all together, O believers, so that you may be successful.
*Surah al Noor 24 :31*

O Prophet! Ask your wives, daughters, and believing women to draw their cloaks over their bodies. In this way it is more likely that they will be recognized ˹as virtuous˺ and not be harassed. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.1
*Footnote - 1*
He has forgiven what Muslim women did in the past because they were not obligated to cover up.

*FRIDAY KHUTBA (09-01-2026)🇦🇪🎙️*

*I Am Pleased by Good Omens*

First Khutbah

All praise is due to Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, who has prescribed for us His straight religion, urging us towards optimism and hope, diligence and action.

We bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and we bear witness that our Prophet Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, his family, his companions, and all those who follow him.

To proceed: I advise you, O servants of Allah, and myself first, to have taqwa of Allah, the Exalted, says: ﴿

“And fear Allah; and let the believers put their trust in Him.”

O Believers: Optimism is a value that instills joy in the souls, revives the heart with energy, and motivates a person to shape their tomorrow and build their future. Optimism means expecting good from the Lord of the worlds and rejoicing in what is praiseworthy. Allah has opened the gates of hope and optimism for us through Qur’anic verses.

“You do not know; perhaps Allah will bring about after that a matter”

When a believer reflects upon this verse, the lights of hope illuminate his heart, and the meanings of optimism blossom in his spirit. It is the same optimism with which the prophets and messengers were distinguished, and with which the wise and righteous adorned themselves.

Indeed, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ loved good omens.”

The foremost value and pillar of optimism, and its greatest source and cause, is having a good opinion of Allah (Husn al-Zhann). It is the key to optimism, as the believers reflect upon the words of their Lord in the Sacred Hadith Qudsi: «أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي»

“I am as My servant thinks of Me.”

Their hearts find tranquillity, their souls are reassured, and they anticipate good. They hope for righteousness from Allah, and indeed, Allah, Glory be to Him, is as they expect of Him, just as He has promised: ﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ﴾

“Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise.”

Ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

“By Allah, there is no servant who is a true believer who has ever been given anything better than having a good opinion of Allah. And no servant maintains a good opinion of Allah except that Allah grants him what he expects of Him.”

Glory be to Him, He manages the affairs of His servants with wisdom and mercy, and He only decrees what is good for them.

Therefore, O servants of Allah, persist in having a good opinion of your Lord in all circumstances, and let your motto be: ﴿حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ سَيُؤْتِينَا اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ﴾

“Sufficient for us is Allah; He will give us of His bounty.”

Keep optimism present in both your ease and hardship. Have you not heard your Prophet ﷺ say to his companion while they were in the cave, surrounded by dangers: «مَا ظَنُّكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ بِاثْنَيْنِ اللَّهُ ثَالِثُهُمَا؟»

“What do you think, O Abu Bakr, of two, Allah being the third of them?”.”

This is optimism and having a good opinion of Allah.

And has the story of Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) not reached you? When she heard the Prophet ﷺ say:

“No servant is afflicted with a calamity and says, ‘Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it for me with something better,’ except that Allah will reward him in his calamity and replace it for him with something better.
” When her husband passed away, she followed the Prophet’s ﷺ instruction with certainty, and indeed, the Best of Creation ﷺ married her thereafter.

This is the outcome of every person who maintains hope and trust in their Lord, no matter how severe the trials. As Allah says: ﴿

“Indeed, Allah will bring about ease after hardship.”

Some of the wise have said: “In every calamity that befalls you, make use of having a good opinion of Allah in its relief.”

The believer continues to maintain a good opinion of his Lord and strives in His obedience, until Allah admits him into Paradise.

O servants of Allah, hope in Allah is among the greatest values of optimism. It is the provision of those who strive on their path, and it drives them to diligence in their work. Without hope, action would cease.

Consider how Prophet Ya‘qub (peace be upon him) commanded his sons to hold onto hope and to take the necessary means while placing sincere trust in Allah. He said his immortal words: ﴿يَا بَنِيَّ اذْهَبُوا فَتَحَسَّسُوا مِنْ يُوسُفَ وَأَخِيهِ وَلَا تَيْأَسُوا مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ﴾

“O my sons, go and investigate about Yusuf and his brother, and do not despair of Allah’s relief.”

So, plant hope within your children and families, in your workplaces, and in all areas of your lives, so that hope may remain a prevailing moral value, and optimism a firmly established path.

Allah, the Exalted, says: ﴿

“O you who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.”

I say these words of mine, and I seek Allah’s forgiveness for myself and for you; so, seek His forgiveness.

Second Khutbah

All praise is due to Allah, besides whom there is no deity, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, after whom there is no prophet.

To proceed: O believers, among the values of optimism and its causes is rejoicing in good. The believer remains constantly optimistic and cheerful, expecting good in his present and his future. He avoids the whispers of evil and those who promote it, and he keeps in mind the words of his Lord: ﴿لَا تَحْسَبُوهُ شَرًّا لَكُمْ، بَلْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ﴾

“Do not think it bad for you; rather, it is good for you.”

With this firm certainty, the believer brings happiness upon himself. For this reason, our Prophet ﷺ encouraged us to seek out glad tidings and spread them, saying: «‌

“Give glad tidings and do not repel people.”

Yes, O servants of Allah, spread glad tidings through kind words, words that instill hope in hearts and optimism in souls. The Prophet ﷺ said: : «يُعْجِبُنِي ‌الْفَأْلُ ‌الصَّالِحُ، ‌الْكَلِمَةُ الْحَسَنَةُ»

“I am pleased by a good omen: a kind word.”

How much we are in need of choosing kind words in our dialogue and selecting words of glad tidings in our dealings, such as saying “good,” “rejoice,” «خَيْرٌ» «أَبْشِرْ» and the like, words that stir feelings of optimism within the soul and lay the foundation for positive thinking, which is among the most important values of optimism.

Through this, a person does not stand helpless before challenges; rather, he strives with insight to resolve difficulties. So, will you not adorn yourselves with a positive spirit that leads you toward further progress? By the grace of Allah, you are capable of that, and worthy of it.

And accompany patience and contentment, for they are gateways to goodness and sources of optimism.

‘Umar ibn al-Khattab wrote to Abu Musa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with them both):

“All goodness lies in contentment. If you are able to be content, then do so; otherwise, be patient.”

These, O servants of Allah, are some of the values of optimism: its pulse is hope, its pillar is certainty, and its fruit is success.
