I’m back in regular contact with Sam after his move to HMP Hull. It took a few days to sort his phone credit and contacts out. He was a bit pissed off when he first moved as he had a full time job at Leeds so the days were passing quite fast for him and now he’s back in his cell for 22 hours a day. However, he’s now applied for a few jobs at Hull and hopefully he’ll get one of those.

In general, he says Hull is a better prison than Leeds. The food is nicer, the visiting sessions are for two hours instead of one hour and they run family days which are full day sessions where the inmates are allowed to spend the day with their children. They did these at Leeds too but they were only for two hours.

At the moment, Sam is on the induction wing. This is where inmates go for the first couple of weeks until they get their permanent wing. He says the atmosphere is a bit tense as sexual offenders (including child abusers) also go on that wing when they first arrive. He said nobody wants to talk to anybody because nobody wants to talk to a nonce. Once they get given their permanent wing, the sexual offenders are by themselves so I imagine it’ll be better then. Sam is currently sharing a cell with a young lad who’s in there for credit card fraud and they are getting on well.

I’ll put up another post below this one with prisoner contact details as James Costello has also just been moved elsewhere.

You can either write them a letter (please include your name and a return address or it won’t get through) or you can send them an email here.

There are 50 “Free Sam Melia” metal pin badges listed on the Grandma Towler’s website. These are listed for my cost price + processing fees so I’m not making any profit from them. I also just want to say a massive thank you to everybody who wears a badge and helps to raise awareness of Sam’s case.

Btw, the postage to the US currently says £9.40. I think it should be less than that because they can be sent as a large letter rather than a parcel. When I speak with Sam tonight, I’ll ask him how I fix this. It should be about £4 postage to the US.

I've fixed this now so the shipping to the USA is £3.80, instead of £9.40 which it previously said.

Completely normal way to fall to sleep, Catherine! 😅

Any based graphic designers in here want to make a recruitment poster for me? I’m willing to pay

Been watching a few of the classic Disney films over the last month and I’ve come to the conclusion that the Aristocats is the best Disney film. There I said it.

Hey folks. If you haven’t signed this petition yet please can you do so?

I know some petitions are a bit lame and we feel the government are never going to care so why bother, but there’s a very important reason for signing this one. Sam’s probation team (who are responsible for his release) have told him they’ve seen the public’s response to his sentence. If we can get a few thousand signatures on this (and we’ve already reached 1000 very quickly) it could help strengthen the case that there is public pushback to his sentence.

I know it’s a big ask, but please ask your friends and family members to sign it too, and share it on social media if you feel you can. We all miss Sam like mad and want to get him home as soon as possible.

Thank you 🤍

Just been to visit Sam for the first time in his new prison - HMP Hull. It’s a much nicer prison than Leeds! It has a much more relaxed atmosphere and the security isn’t as strict. The children’s play area is bigger and there are staff there doing things with the kids. And there’s also a cafe where you can order proper food, unlike at Leeds where it was more of a tuck shop. Got Sam a pizza and he was dead chuffed 😁 The visits are for two hours instead of one hour like at Leeds too. Also, HMP Hull is almost entirely White. I didn’t see any foreigners while I was there and Sam says there’s only one black guy on his whole wing.

It’s like watching myself with a beard

Hey all. It is Sam’s birthday on 9th June. He is still a political prisoner in HMP Hull and I wondered if you would all join me in helping to fill his cell with birthday cards.

I know I’m a bit early with it still being two weeks away, but he has friends abroad who I thought might like to send him a card, and even within England it takes them about a week or so for them to actually deliver his post within the prison.

If you would like to send him a card, please post it to:

Thank you so much. I know it will mean so much to him 🤍

This was baby Sara born at 23 weeks. In the UK the Mother and the NHS can terminate babies like Sara by having them decapitated in the womb then suctioned out with a hoover. This is what they call 'healthcare choices'.
