Jose Angel Castillo, 43, was spotted wielding makeshift spears. The Oakland Police Department ordered Castillo to drop the weapons, and he refused, saying he “was doing nothing.”

After several taser shots did not bring Castillo down, he allegedly managed to grab one of the officers' weapons, and the 2 of the police officers opened fire. Castillo was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the 2 officers were placed on administrative leave, which is department policy.

Motreon Williams, Ronnie Scott and Jimmie Alexander were arrested in February after a video of the beating went viral. After the arrests, prosecutors said they were still missing key evidence, including hospital records, witness identifications and an interview with the victim.

🇺🇸 Luigi Mangione admitted in federal court today that he stalked and fatally shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan in December 2024.
