That Bill C-9 will give the police the power to act if they receive a complaint about what Bernier said. Bernier stated that all these fake Indian students must not be here in Canada, and I'm pretty sure that these fake Indian students don't like that. It looks like @PierrePoilievre is signalling support for Bill C-9, the "Combatting Hate Act" — using Christians as the framing to sell it by saying Christians may be the #1 victims of hate-based violence.

As a Christian, here are the problems as I see them:

- Bill C-9 includes new offences to “protect” religion. It proposes creating new crimes for intimidating or obstructing people from accessing churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, or other places of worship and cultural significance. That’s the part Pierre is echoing when he says more laws are needed to protect Christians.

- But laws already exist. Arson, mischief, threats, and harassment are all prohibited. Just like with gun control, piling on more Criminal Code sections doesn’t stop determined criminals — it only expands state power and risks criminalizing protest and dissent.

- Remember Bill C-4? Parliament — unanimously, including Pierre — voted to criminalize “conversion therapy,” presented as protecting vulnerable children. Now, the same approach may be repeated with Bill C-9, presented as protecting Christians by the Conservatives. The pattern is clear: frame it as “protection,” then expand the criminal law.

Pierre may be preparing to back Bill C-9 under this cover. The real question is: will these laws protect faith communities, or will they hand the government more power while the underlying problems remain?
