Last week, a remote-controlled armored personnel carrier belonging to the Israeli army carried out a mission in the area of Ras al-Bayda village, where fighters from the Netzah Yehuda Battalion are present in the western sector of southern Lebanon. At one point, due to a technical malfunction, the armored vehicle began to move uncontrollably and reached near a Lebanese army position in the area.
The Israeli army decided to destroy the armored personnel carrier and began attacking it from the air, launching several airstrikes that hit nearby positions. It later became clear that it was a manned vehicle belonging to the Lebanese army and that it was attacked due to a misidentification error. No injuries or damage occurred.
The attack on Lebanese soldiers, in addition to the prevented ceasefire, was a pretext to cause a serious crisis and even end talks between the two countries.
The Israeli army spokesperson's office responded by saying: "The incident is known and is being investigated. We affirm that the Israeli army's activity in the area is directed only against the terrorist organization Hezbollah, and not against the Lebanese army."
