If it weren’t for her life and work, half of the humans in our society would not be able to get credit in our names, enter many professions and universities, or have recourse against domestic violence. Critics can pick on ‘feminism’ all they want but they must face these historical facts. Steinem — whom I met several times - was a massive influence on me as a young activist. She showed me that one could do fierce battle while within a context of grace, femininity, moral coherence and love.
