I had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1994 and I am going to tell you one thing almost nobody talks about. If you are scared or you think you will die, you will. The mind calls the shots far more than people realise.
I watched family members go to every doctor, therapist, holy place, alternative clinic and treatment you can name. They still died because from the moment the diagnosis was given, everyone around them spoke fear and worry within earshot. That goes straight into the subconscious. The mind does the healing. Supplements and therapies help, but the mind is the core driver.
I will never forget one day in 1994 while I was still on chemo. I was watching the six o clock news with my eight year old daughter. She heard the word cancer mentioned about a woman who had died. She turned to me and asked if that was what I had. I said yes, but the difference is Daddy ain’t gonna die. I never once believed I would. Even when they confirmed Hodgkin’s after the biopsy (not Non Hodgkins), I joked well that is good you have a name for it. I had already read about supporting the immune system, so I used vitamins, minerals and whatever I could between injections. Only later did I discover how much of a money making scam industry chemo and radiotherapy really are.
My view is simple. Never give up hope. If you can eat, walk, climb stairs, function, think and breathe, you can survive. Do not be steamrollered into chemo. Use it as a last resort if you do not see positive changes after a few months of a real lifestyle overhaul, not half hearted magic bullet concoctions. Most people die of the chemo. They die in agony. I am here despite the chemo and radiotherapy, not because of them. Tumours are part of the healing mechanism. You can have one for years without knowing it.
Change your lifestyle. Change your food. Do intermittent fasting to give your body space to repair. Breathe deeply. Exercise so your muscles generate biological electricity to make new healthy cells. Look up Dr Jerry Tennant and Healing is Voltage.
Do not fall for magic bullets. The only magic bullet is the brain. Hit the problem from all angles. Food. Water. Enzymes. Vitamins. Minerals. Good oils. Organic meat and fish. Herbs. Essential oils. Visualisation. Meditation. Not saying you must do everything, but do something. The more tools your body has, the more it knows what to do. Some people thrive on raw diets. Others thrive on meat and good fats. Find what strengthens you.
Never stop learning. It does not matter what cancer you have. Someone has survived it and so can you.
I have seen so many people die because they never understood how much intelligence the body has or how much fear destroys healing. Over the years countless friends and family asked me what I recommended. Most were terrified into starting chemo immediately by doctors or relatives. They were not even in pain. They just had a diagnosis. Every one of them died except two people who listened and chose a saner path.
About metastasis, there are two ways to look at it. When they cut out a tumour or remove a breast, loose cells can escape into the bloodstream. Or from a biological model called German New Medicine view, the diagnosis shock itself can trigger a biological conflict and create a new cancer elsewhere. It might be a blend of both.
And one more thing about the mind. I had pain for over a year. It moved around. Sides, back, legs finally to my testicles 24/7 not in all places at the same time except the testicles. I had every test going. Fingers up the backside for prostate cancer checks. Radioactive dye for imaging. Three nurses examining me when the pain moved to my testicles. I was overdosing on painkillers. The diagnosis was nothing wrong, it will go as suddenly as it came.
That was my wake up call. I tried a hypnotist for pain, nothing happened. A chiropractor for months, wasted money. A physiotherapist whose first reaction was you need a urologist.

This is ultimately a questioning of and critique about the post-Enlightenment philosophy of medicine & healing.
It is also the reason we spent years making a film on this subject, which goes deep into the way we think about healing and how this has changed during the "Enlightenment" period.
It is of course ultimately both a philosophical and a spiritual question.

Chemotherapy can speed up cancer spread, Chinese study finds
Common treatment can wake up dormant cancer cells, causing the disease to spread from original sites to other organs, team discovers
"A team of Chinese scientists has found that the spread of cancer from original tumour sites to distant organs can be caused by chemotherapy triggering the awakening of dormant cancer cells.
Their findings shed light on why breast cancer patients can experience cancer metastasis in organs like the lungs despite successful treatment of their primary tumours.
The team also found that the use of specific drugs in combination with chemotherapy could be used to inhibit this process in mice, and a clinical trial is already under way in breast cancer patients.
“We demonstrate that chemotherapeutic drugs, including doxorubicin and cisplatin, enhance proliferation and lung metastasis of dormant breast cancer cells,” the team wrote in a paper published in the peer-reviewed journal Cancer Cell on July 3.
“This study provides direct evidence of dormancy awakening and reveals a mechanism underlying [the] detrimental effect of chemotherapy on metastasis, highlighting potential strategies to improve cancer treatment.”
Researchers in the United States previously found that high doses of radiation therapy to treat cancer could paradoxically lead to the growth of metastatic tumours.
Many patients who undergo chemotherapy to treat primary tumours, the original tumour site in the body where cancer cells first start to develop, can have cancer relapses in other organs even after complete primary tumour regression.
This has led to research into whether chemotherapy can have a similar paradoxical effect, in which it both treats primary tumours and triggers cancer metastasis.
“It is postulated that the reactivation, or awakening, of dormant disseminated tumour cells (DTCs) in distant organs results in metastatic relapse after the asymptomatic period,” the team said.
Studies have shown that disseminated cancer cells, which travel from primary tumours to sites in the body, can be found even during the early stages of primary cancer formation, according to a news release by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
These cells can stay in a dormant state for years, during which they do not grow and multiply, allowing them to evade chemotherapy.
Researchers have previously identified molecular mechanisms that regulate metastatic relapse and disseminated cancer cell dormancy. However, it has not been clear whether metastasis results from the reactivation of dormant cells or the growth of rare, non-dormant disseminated cells.
“Understanding the exogenous causes of DTC awakening will help disease management of cancer survivors, offering opportunities to prevent and interrupt metastatic relapse after initial therapies,” the researchers said in their paper.
To study this, the team led by Hu Guohong, a professor at CAS’ Shanghai Institute of Nutrition and Health, along with researchers from Fudan University and Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, developed a cancer cell dormancy tracing approach.
The team confirmed that chemotherapy-induced reactivation of dormant cells from breast cancer could lead to metastatic relapse in the lungs of mice.
Their findings demonstrated that the “awakening of dormant DTCs, but not accumulation of pre-existing proliferative DTCs, is responsible for metastases induced by chemotherapy”.
Chemotherapy induces senescence – an accelerated state of ageing in which cells stop multiplying and release inflammation-causing chemicals – in specialised connective tissue called fibroblasts.
The team found that senescent fibroblasts release proteins that cause immune cells called neutrophils to form weblike formations, called neutrophil extracellular traps, which change the environment in the lung into one that helps dormant cancer cells restart their growth."

President John F. Kennedy was deeply concerned about Israel's nuclear program and the Dimona reactor, which was constructed with French assistance starting in 1958. The U.S. government, including Kennedy, viewed the reactor as potentially capable of producing weapons-grade plutonium, with intelligence estimates suggesting it could produce enough for one or two nuclear weapons per year by the mid-1960s.
Kennedy's concerns intensified after the reactor's existence was confirmed shortly before he took office in January 1961, and he made the issue a priority early in his presidency.
Kennedy sought to ensure that the Dimona facility was used solely for peaceful purposes and insisted on regular U.S. inspections to verify this. In April 1963, he formally demanded that Israel allow bi-annual American visits to Dimona, warning that U.S. support for Israel could be "seriously jeopardized" if reliable information on the facility's activities could not be obtained.
This demand was unprecedented, as the U.S. had not been involved in building Dimona, and no international law had been violated. Kennedy's approach was described as a near ultimatum, reflecting his determination to prevent nuclear proliferation in the Middle East.
The Israeli leadership, including Prime Ministers David Ben-Gurion and Levi Eshkol, resisted these demands. Ben-Gurion initially evaded a direct confrontation, attempting to divert attention from the issue. Eshkol, who succeeded Ben-Gurion, took seven weeks to respond, engaging in tense internal consultations before reluctantly agreeing to the inspections. Despite this, the inspections were widely seen as a charade, with U.S. officials acknowledging they were not rigorously conducted and were designed more to maintain appearances than to uncover the truth. The first inspection in 1961, for example, was arranged outside regular governmental channels and involved a guided tour that found no evidence of weapons-related activity, despite U.S. intelligence believing Israel was developing nuclear weapons.
Kennedy's efforts were part of a broader concern about nuclear proliferation, which he viewed as a major challenge to American power and global stability.
The issue was eventually resolved through a compromise, or some argue through Kennedy's assassination, with the U.S. accepting inspections that were largely symbolic, allowing Israel to proceed with its nuclear program. This arrangement continued under President Lyndon Johnson, who, unlike Kennedy, preferred compromise over confrontation and effectively accepted Israel's nuclear capability.
