Netanyahu bypassed the government and the political and security ministerial council decided tonight to activate the war clause in the basic law of the government.

Activating this clause will allow the government to issue an order “to undertake major military action that may lead, with a high degree of probability, to war.”

The authority to activate Article 40 rests with the government, and in exceptional cases the Prime Minister can refer the decision to the Council of Ministers, and so was decided tonight.

The Cabinet Secretary provided an update on this issue to the Chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee.
