WhatsApp groups linked to the Bani Khalid tribe have circulated calls for a general mobilization against Alawites, citing the killing of a man and a woman from their own tribe—though the culprit remains unknown. Yet blaming innocent civilians and staging events has become second nature, clearly targeting the Alawite community in the area.
A few months ago, the same “playbook” was used in Sweida, when a fabricated story about a Bedouin woman’s murder by Druze sparked mass mobilization by tribes and de facto authorities, despite the story being entirely false.
The pattern is now as plain as day: a calculated, systematic campaign designed to sow fear, tension, and division among Syria’s communities.
