Gemini becomes Ireland’s first approved Virtual Asset Service Provider
With the combined approval of a VASP and an e-money license, the US-based crypto exchange will offer its custody and exchange services to customers based in Ireland. In November of 2021, Gemini showed its commitment to expand across Europe by opening an office in Dublin while hiring Gillian Lynch as the Head of Ireland and E.U.
The Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss led-exchange Gemini is one of the few crypto companies vocally supporting regulatory efforts in the space. In a 2019 advertisement campaign held in NYC, with the slogan “Revolution Need Rules,” the company argued that investors’ interests should be protected by following regulations and adopting standard best practices for the crypto market. Gemini offers a limited range of cryptocurrencies for trading and have received all the necessary license for their operation.

Crypto lending platform Celsius Network had filed for bankruptcy on July 13. A month prior to that the crypto lender had ceased withdrawals along with transfers from accounts. Celsius representatives appeared in court which is in relation to the company’s bankruptcy hearing.
This presentation provides alternatives for the users to get their money back. The platform has also spoken of making use of Bitcoin mining operations along with third-party asset sales to gather funds and pay the debt back. In this recovery plan, the crypto lender Celsius has also presented ways such as negotiating the restructuring transaction with stakeholders. The plan put forth by the lending platform was extensive in nature and it completely structures the way the company wants to address the crisis.

Dutch Central Bank Fines Binance Over Unauthorised Services
The Dutch Central Bank has imposed a 3.3 million euros ($3.4 million) fine on Binance for extending unauthorised services to Dutch citizens. The crypto exchange did not have proper registration but still continued to provide services. This comes as a setback to the exchange’s campaign to win over the European regulators.
The Central Bank stated that the crypto exchange had violated the rules which was needed by the digital asset company to be able to have a registration that would facilitate the exchange to offer services in Netherlands. Additionally, the exchange has served a high number of users in Netherlands which made the Dutch Central Bank levy additional fees on the exchange. The regulatory body had stated that these violations that the crypto exchange carried out was punishable by a third category fine which meant that the base administrative fine amounted to €2 million ($2.03 million).
