Custom Animated Emoji (Premium)
• The new animated emojis can be included message texts and captions, adding even more emotion to your chats.
• Premium users get access to 10 initial custom emoji packs, containing more than 500 Premium emojis — and counting.
• Animated emojis are visible to all users, regardless of having an active Premium subscription.
• Ability to view the sets used in a specific message.
• A tooltip of animated emojis will appear as soon as you type any regular emoji.
• You are able to try them out by sending them to Saved Messages.
• You can also upload your own animated emoji packs packs with unique characters for Telegram Premium subscribers to use.

Interactive Custom Emojis
• Popular custom emojis are also interactive when sent in private chats.
• All users can enjoy full-screen animations whenever possible.
• Widely-used emojis, such as 😂, 😍, 😁, 😱, ❤️, 👍, 🎉, and even some less-known ones like 💸, 🔥, 👻, now have additional animations.

Privacy Settings for Voice Messages (Premium)
• Premium users now have a setting that enables them to control who is able to send them voice/video messages: everyone, contacts, or no one.
• Premium users can now block voice messages and set exceptions for users or group of users from Settings > Privacy > Voice Messages.

Gifting Telegram Premium
• You can now gift Telegram Premium to friends, family and co-workers at a discount for 3, 6 or 12 months.
• Gifted subscriptions will instantly arrive, along with a special message.
• The gifting option is located at Profile > ⋮ > Gift Premium.

Updated Sticker Panel (iOS)
• You can now quickly and easily switch between stickers, emojis and GIFs.
• Optimized performance for aged devices when scrolling through stickers and emojis.
• A tooltip of animated emojis will appear as soon as you type any regular emoji.

New Interactive Emojis
• The following emojis now have full-screen animations: 🍌, 🤨, ⚡️, 💔, 🏆, 😐.
• To trigger the full-screen animations, simply send one of those emojis to a private chat.

The Beta version of Telegram for Android lets you create "topics" inside group chats.

Topics are several small subchats within a group, in each of ones chat members will be able to join all sorts of discussions.

What is already known about topics:
• Topics will only be available to groups with more than 200 members.
• Topics cannot be activated in channel-linked groups yet.
• Most likely, only the owner of the group will be able to activate topics in the group.
• Any user emoji can be set as an avatar for a topic (Premium subscription required).
• If desired, topics can be closed, reopened, or deleted.
• You can set your own notification conditions for individual topics within a group.
• Users will be able to view any threads after joining a group.
• There is a switch for topics management in the chat members permissions settings.

Topics are currently in the testing phase, so there may be quite a few more feature-related changes by the time of release.

At the moment, topics are partially functional only on the Telegram test server.

More Details About Your Chat Partner

The beta version of Telegram for Android 11.8 now provides additional information about users who start conversations with you.

The app now displays:

• The country that issued the user's phone number
• The month and year of their account registration
• The number of mutual groups
• If the account is Telegram official one
• Third party verification status.
• If account profile picture was changes in last few days.

Paid Messages in Groups

On the Telegram test server, users can set a fee for sending messages in their groups. Today, this feature works like this:

Settings
• You can enable paid messaging in the “Permissions” section of the group settings screen.
• Only administrators with the “Ban Users” permission can set up a fee for sending messages.
• The setting is only available in supergroups. It is not available in basic groups.
• If the setting is enabled, regular group members must pay for sending each message to this group. Sending messages remains free for administrators.
• 85% of the stars paid by members go to the group, and the other 15% go to Telegram. Only the owner of the group is able to see and withdraw the balance of the group.

Sending Messages
• If the paid message sending option is enabled in a group, then users will see the corresponding text in the empty input field, and instead of the send button, they will see a button with a price and an image of a star.
• For sending each message, an ordinary group member will have to pay the number of stars specified by the group administrators.
• In groups with paid messaging, it is not possible to schedule messages, and messages scheduled before paid messaging was enabled will not be sent at the scheduled time.
• There is no fee for editing messages that have already been sent.
• Sending an album of several media will cost you the same amount as sending a single message as much as sending each media individually.

We remind you that authorization on the test server is unstable, as is the purchase of stars. Discussion of these issues in our group is prohibited.

Group Calls With E2E Encryption in Beta Version

Users of the beta version of Telegram for Android 11.9.1 may now participate in group calls with end-to-end encryption.

To create a group call, navigate to “Calls › Start New Call” from the drawer and tap “Create Call Link”. The application will create a link to the group call in the form of t.me/call, which you need to send to the users you want to invite to the call.

Group call participants have the following options:
• Muting the microphone
• Broadcasting the main or front camera
• Adding new participants to the call (taking into account their privacy settings) and sharing the call link
• Minimizing the call screen to allow them to use the application while in a call

End-to-end encryption protects group calls from eavesdropping: all call data is encrypted so that only call participants can decrypt it.

Message Channels

In the Beta version of Telegram for iOS 11.12 (30793), users may now send messages to channel admins, the channel "teleLakel" reports.

The price for messages may range from 0 to 10,000 Telegram stars. Previously, this feature appeared in Telegram for macOS.

The feature is currently in early development, only works on the test server, and may change in the future.

Auction for Purchasing Limited Gifts

In the beta version of Telegram for iOS 12.2 (31682), a new system for distributing gifts via auction has been implemented.

How the auction currently works:
• 50 gifts are distributed at different intervals among the top 50 participants with the highest bids. 
• If a bid drops out of the top 50, it is automatically carried over to the next draw. 
• If a bid does not win after the final draw, the stars are fully refunded.

At the moment, the auction applies to newly released gifts. Whether the system will also work for previously upgraded gifts is still unknown.

This feature is under development and currently works only on the test server. Its behavior may change in the future.

Log in to Telegram via Passkeys Without Codes or Phone Numbers

In the future, Telegram plans to introduce authentication via Passkeys. The first signs of this feature have appeared in the Beta version of Telegram for Android 12.2.8.

The key advantage of Passkeys is the ability to log into your account without entering a phone number or a one-time code. This distinguishes it from logging in via email or Google / Apple ID, which serve merely as alternatives to receiving an SMS code.

A “log in using passkey” button has appeared on the app's login screen. Tapping it launches your password manager, which verifies your identity using Face ID, fingerprint, or your screen lock PIN. From it, the messenger receives your signature, which functions as your login, password, and one-time confirmation code all simultaneously.

Much like email login, this new feature will need to be pre-configured in Telegram’s security settings. The key will be saved on the phone where it was created, but it can be synced with other devices via Google Password Manager, iCloud Passwords, or other applications.

Why is this important?

• Reduced reliance on SMS: This makes logging in possible even if you don’t have active sessions and your mobile operator is blocking SMS messages from Telegram.

• Security: The Passkey is stored in a secure enclave of your password manager—it cannot be intercepted or entered on a phishing site.

• Speed: Login is performed with a single touch via biometrics (face or fingerprint). When you switch phones, the Passkey automatically syncs via your password manager using your Google account or Apple ID.

Major Redesign of Android App

In 12.3 Beta version of Telegram for Android, the app’s interface has undergone a substantial redesign.

What’s new:

• The side menu has been completely removed. Key sections such as "Profile", "Contacts", and "Calls" have been moved to the bottom navigation bar, while the remaining options are now located in a three-dot overflow menu positioned directly above the chat list.

• The "Settings" section is now accessible in two ways: via a large "Settings" button on the Profile tab, or through the three-dot menu at the top of the screen.

• Long-pressing the "Profile" tab in the tab bar allows you to quickly switch between your signed-in accounts. This can also be done from the Settings section.

• The global search bar is now available directly above the chat list and remains visible while scrolling.

• The button for creating a new Story has been moved to the top of the screen.

• The icons next to items on the main "Settings" screen have been updated.

• The active chat folder is now displayed in a capsule-style design.
