Sensitive content filtration toggle in WebZ

Now you can turn off sensitive content filtration in Telegram WebZ browser app. The filter should display the channels with the "sensitive nature" on all user's devices.

At the moment, the setting may be missing for some accounts. It depends on the country the SIM card is registered in, since in some regions pornographic content is prohibited by law.

Telegram announced about the competition to create a sticker application.

Task: Build an app for iOS or Android that helps users create unique stickers and import them to Telegram as described in this message.

New update loader of Telegram for Android

Not everyone got update to the latest version of the Telegram for Android installed from the site.

You need to update the application to version 7.8 via the official website or channel. All following updates will be downloaded directly from the app.

Additionally, the appearance of the built-in updates has changed.

We remind you that the version from the site has fewer restrictions and is updated more often.

System sounds in the next update

The official Twitter account of Telegram announced that in the next update sharing your screen will stream system sound too.

Import stickers from VK to Telegram

For the recent update, @tginfoen team prepared an app that demonstrates one of the new features — sticker import. Now you can import a sticker set from VK by yourself just in few clicks.

The app is available for Android, it requires Telegram app version 7.8 or higher to work.

Telegram channels donations

A tool appeared in Telegram to help users in encouraging channel admins.

The verified @donate bot uses Payments 2.0. To receive donations, the channel admin has to add the bot as a channel admin with rights to delete posts. After that, you have to send a special command, which triggers the bot to create a donation button for you.

A channel you're trying to link has to have move than 1,000 subscribers, has to be public, has to be created more than 3 months ago, and has to belong to "Entertainment" or "Education" categories. The channel owner has to pass verification by scanning own face in the service.

Fees for accepting and withdrawing the funds are higher than 5% right now, but expected to be lowered in future. Despite the fact the bot looks like a native monetization solution from the Telegram team, this is actually a third-party service delivered by smart-glocal.com.

Telegram announced contest for Android designers

Task: Develop a comprehensive concept of voice and video calls for Telegram X on Android that includes one-on-one calls, as well as group calls in voice chats.

Prize fund: at least $30,000 – from which the 1st place winner will receive $10,000 if any submissions qualify for the 1st prize.

Telegram was blocked in Cuba

The protests against the Cuban government began last weekend. Telegram apps received a version 7.8.1 update for Android and 7.8.3 for iOS.

Telegram founder listed in leaked Pegasus project data

Journalists have established that Pavel Durov's phone was included in the list of potential Pegasus hacker attacks back in early 2018. It was Durov's British number, to which the entrepreneur linked his account in the messenger. It is unknown whether the customers managed to track the smartphone. It is also unclear who exactly wanted to hack the entrepreneur.

Pegasus — an Israeli malware that invisibly infects devices and gives operatives complete control over data. Thanks to this, the authorities, for example, could intercept all messages, photos, calls and even correspondence in protected messengers.

Pavel Durov commented on the news about the surveillance of users

The phones of 50,000 individuals, including human rights activists and journalists, have been targeted by surveillance tools that were by numerous governments. These tools can hack any iOS and Android phone, and there is no way to protect your device from it. It doesn't matter which apps you use, because the system is breached on a deeper level.

Pavel Durov confirmed that since at least 2018, he has been aware that his phone numbers was included in a list of potential targets of such surveillance tools. Anyone who gains access to his private data will be utterly disappointed – they will have to go through thousands of concept designs for Telegram features and millions of messages related to our product development process. They won't find any important information there.

However, these surveillance tools are also used against people far more prominent than me. For example, they were employed to spy on 14 heads of state.

Pavel Durov has already called on the governments of the world to start acting against the duopoly of Apple and Google in the smartphone market and force them to open their closed ecosystems and create conditions for increased competition.

I hope the news that they themselves have been targeted by these surveillance tools will prompt politicians to change their minds.

Russia fined Telegram for $150,000

A fine is imposed according to three protocols on the non-removal of prohibited content.

The decision was made by the magistrate of the judicial district No. 422. Telegram Messenger Inc. was sentenced to four, five and two million rubles.
