People Nearby and Groups Nearby No Longer Visible

Our subscribers report that both People Nearby and Groups Nearby have disappeared from the "People Nearby" section.

The @tginfo team does not have any information on whether this is related to the recent events in Paris.

You still can see users nearby if they are added to your contact list. Of course only if they tapped "Make myself visible" there.

Telegram is Replacing "People Nearby" with "Businesses Nearby"

In Telegram version 11.1, the "People Nearby" feature was removed. Pavel Durov revealed that only 0.1% of users actually used this feature. Durov acknowledged issues with bots and scammers, which contributed to its removal.

In the same statement, Pavel Durov announced that Telegram is working on a replacement feature called "Businesses Nearby." According to Durov, the new feature will only include genuine, verified businesses. It's reported that businesses will be able to publish product catalogs and easily accept payments through this feature.
