The US withdrew from Iraq but successfully still occupies it.
1- Iraqi oil revenue since 2003 has been deposited directly into the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Washington chooses whether to release the funds or not, and how much to release to the Iraqi government.
The Iraqi PM Ali al-Zaidi, in this video yesterday, says:
“We spoke with them (the American side). They allocated $140 million per month for us. I told them this amount was not enough, so negotiations began, and we reached half a billion dollars per month. I want more than a billion dollars. Hopefully, they will release over $1 billion…..”
2- Iraq is governed by the Bremer constitution, which institutionalized ethnic and sectarian divisions in Iraq instead of the principle of merit and competence.
Although not written in the constitution, this arrangement has been followed since the rule of the American governor of Iraq, Paul Bremer:
- The president has to be Kurdish.
-The PM has to be Shia.
-The parliament speaker has to be Sunni.
The most important of these positions is the PM, who holds most of the power, and that’s why the Shia of Iraq didn’t have a problem with the occupation, except in recent years when Iran and the US clashed.
