On October 29, 2000, an AP photographer captured an image of 14-year-old Palestinian Faris Odeh standing in front of an Israeli tank, confronting it with a stone near al-Muntar Junction in Gaza.

On November 8, 2000, Israeli army soldiers shot and killed him with a bullet to the neck at the same location while he was confronting them with stones

The late Egyptian writer Radwa Ashour described Faris in her novel “A Piece of Europe” as a child who loved dabke dancing and singing.

She wrote that he was singing even while confronting the tank:

“Even if they break my bones, I am not afraid. Even if they demolish our home, I am not afraid.”

No one knows her real name, date of birth, or family.

At approximately 2 weeks old, she miraculously survived Israeli massacre in al-Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City at the beginning of the war, which killed over 300 Palestinians.

Civil Defense rescuers found her on a tree branch and took her to Al-Shifa Hospital.

No one came forward to identify or claim her.

After a month without any information about her identity or family, nurse Amal Ismail took her into her care, named her Malak (means Angel) and chose October 29 as her birthday.

For the past 3 years, Amal (means hope) has raised Malak as her own family.

UkMTO has received a report of an incident 40NM south of Lavan Island, Iran.

UKMTO has received a report that an vessel has been hit by an unknown projectile on the port side which has caused a fire onboard.

The crew of the vessel have been reported as safe and there is no reported environmental impact at this time. Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO, whilst authorities investigate.
