Frank-Walter Steinmeier professed his regret at the German rule of Tanzania during the 19th and early 20th century which saw 300,000 killed following an uprising.
"I bow to the victims of German colonial rule,โ he said during his visit.
โI would like to apologize for what the Germans did to your ancestors," he added, stating โGermany is ready for a joint reassessment of the past.โ
He also vowed to return bones and skulls from the former colony which are currently housed in German museums.
