SAN FRANCISCO, California
Nearly 9,400 PG&E customers lost power in San Francisco on Sat morning during an unplanned outage lasting hours.
Power was restored gradually, returning shortly after 4 p.m. following several earlier estimates, according to PG&E's outage map.
An early alert for the outage, which began around 9:23 a.m., had shown more than 120,000 customers affected in San Francisco, but PG&E spokesperson Edgar Hopida said that figure was wrong.
“There never was an outage of that magnitude. Unfortunately, there may be some glitches in the system.”
The cause of the outage was not immediately clear, though San Francisco firefighters responded to high-voltage wires arcing near Anza St & 16th Ave in the Richmond District, said Lt. Mariano Elias, spokesperson for the San Fran FD.
PG&E also told the FD that “there was a substation out in the Mission district” that may have caused the broader outage, Elias said.

Libya
A widespread power outage left much of Libya without electricity on Friday evening after a major failure caused the collapse of the national power grid.
According to the Ministry of Electricity & Renewable Energy, the blackout occurred after several strategic power generation units unexpectedly went offline, removing approx 1,350 megawatts from the national grid & triggering a complete collapse of the network’s operating frequency.
Ministry spokesman Rabie Khalifa said the incident began with the sudden disconnection of the 400-kilovolt transmission line linking the Misrata & Al Khums power stations.
The outage caused a reverse flow of around 350 megawatts toward the western grid, resulting in the sequential shutdown of major generating stations, including the Gulf and Misrata power plants.
Electricity service began returning to many areas on Saturday morning, although restoration efforts remained ongoing.

Duneland area officials are baffled about what caused a sonic boom-like noise that startled residents in the Porter & Chesterton communities around 8:50 p.m. Thursday.
The first 911 call about a “loud explosion” came from the Orchard Apartments off Waverly Rd south of U.S. 20, said Tom Blythe, deputy Porter Police chief.
But nothing was found at that location.
Porter police officers who were out on patrol and also experienced the boom checked around town outside the apartment complex.
There were no power outages or fires reported, nor were there any emergency calls from area factories. There were also no damage or injury reports.
“We’re just as curious as anyone else at this point,” Blythe said.
Chesterton Police Chief Tim Richardson said he also has no explanation for what happened.
The epicenter appeared to be closer to Porter and the north side of Chesterton.
