π§ FROM BRAIN TO ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Modern AI began with a powerful question: Can machines learn by using principles inspired by the human brain?
Biological neurons communicate through electrical and chemical signals. Their synaptic connections adapt through experience. Artificial neural networks simplify this idea mathematically: inputs pass through weighted connections, activation functions, and multiple processing layers.
Machine learning then gives these networks the ability to improve:
Data β Prediction β Error β Weight Update β Better Prediction
The journey accelerated through major breakthroughs:
β’ 1943 β Mathematical neuron
β’ 1958 β Perceptron
β’ 1986 β Backpropagation
β’ 1998 β Convolutional neural networks
β’ 2012 β GPU-powered deep learning
β’ 2017 β Transformers
β’ 2020s β Foundation models and generative AI
But AI did not advance by copying the brain exactly. Its progress came from combining brain-inspired ideas with mathematics, enormous datasets, powerful computing hardware, and scalable architectures.
The human brain remains far more biologically complex, adaptive, energy-efficient, and deeply connected to physical experience.
AI is brain-inspiredβbut it is not a digital replica of the human mind.
