A postdoctoral research position in the design of #materials and #structures for #tunable and #active plasmonic #filters is available immediately in the research group of Prof. Harley T. Johnson in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering and the Materials Research Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The position will involve a #computational effort and a close collaboration with a national lab team of #experimental and computational partners. The project is expected to result in the publication and presentation of work in leading journals and conferences.
The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following:
* plasmonic or photonic metamaterial device design
* #simulation software including #COMSOL, #Lumerical, or other #FDTD or #FEM #codes for optical phenomena
* understanding of theory of infrared spectroscopy
* other experience with computational electromagnetics, mechanics of soft materials, #topology #optimization, etc.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship in Computational Mechanics and Structural #optimization. Eligible applicants must hold a PhD in computational mechanics and structural optimization. Applicants having the background about Finite element, #ABAQUS(#UMAT), #ANSYS and #FENICS are welcome.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the area of coupled problems arising in mechanics and mathematical physics. The successful candidate is expected to have relevant experience in computational implementation of these methods.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue his or her own self-initiated research during the tenure of the fellowship under the supervision of Professor Gil Ho Yoon
The fellowship award is approximately 30,000,000 per year and depending on the performance, there are some incentives. The fellowship is renewable for a second year, contingent on satisfactory progress in achieving the research goals, and subject to the availability of funds.
