1) Simulation expertise is not innate.
Deliberate, focused practice, and perserverance are what produce expert simulation engineers.
2) Time alone does not create expertise.
The quality of time and feedback on your practice is what matters.
If expertise is defined as y = x^*(q*f) where
y = expertise
x = time
q =focus
f = feedback
Research shows that quality time and tight feedback loops have massive influence on performance.
3) Experts don't make mistakes.
On the contrary Niels Bohr is attributed as saying "An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field." Your expertise is defined by your response to the mistake.
4) Experts have limitless motivation.
Everyone has days they don't wake up excited to get stuff done. But those who become experts do what needs to be done anyway.
