πSome Highway Engineering Note π§A horizontal curve in a highway, is a curve which is provided to change the direction of the central line of the road. π§When a vehicle traverses a horizontal curve, the centrifugal force acts horizontally outwards throughβ¦
πSome Highway Engineering Notes
π§Stopping distance = Lag distance + Braking distance
βΆοΈLag distance = Distance travelled by the vehicle during the total reaction time.
βΆοΈBraking distance = Distance travelled by the vehicle after the application of the brakes, to a dead stop position.
π§In ascending gradients, braking distance decreased.
π§In descending gradients, braking distance increases.
π§Stopping sight distance and Stopping distance are different.
π§Minimum Stopping sight distance = Stopping distance in following cases
(In one way traffic lanes,In two way traffic roads having 2 or more traffic lanes)
π§Minimum Stopping sight distance = TWICE the Stopping distance in following cases
( On roads with restricted width , On single lane roads when two way movement of traffic is permitted)
π§The Stopping sight distance (SSD) should be provided throughout the length of all roads and hence this is also known as absolute minimum sight distance.
π§Higher Stopping sight distance is required in case of descending gradients.
