👉PROJECT SCHEDULING IN A NUTSHELL

🕓 PERT (Program Evaluation & Review Technique)
Used when activity durations are uncertain.

⭐️It uses three time estimates:

• ⚡ Optimistic (O)
• ⚙️ Most Likely (M)
• 🐢 Pessimistic (P)
Formula → Te = (O + 4M + P) / 6

🎲Helps predict project duration and risk of delay.

🧭 CPM (Critical Path Method)
Used when durations are known.
It finds the longest path in the project network — called the Critical Path.
Any delay on this path = delay in the entire project!

📅 Scheduling Steps

1️⃣ List all activities.
2️⃣ Estimate duration & sequence.
3️⃣ Draw a network (PERT/CPM chart).
4️⃣ Identify the critical path.
5️⃣ Track progress using Gantt Chart, Primavera, or MS Project.

💡 Critical Path = Project Lifeline
💡 PERT = Handle Uncertainty

🚀 Understanding the 3 Main Types of PMOs (According to PMI PMBOK Guide 7th Edition) 🚀
According to PMI, the PMBOK Guide 7th Edition, and ISO 21500, Project Management Offices (PMOs) come in three key types to fit your organization’s needs:
1️⃣ Supportive PMO: Provides templates, tools, training & best practices. Acts as a guide with low control—helping teams succeed.
2️⃣ Controlling PMO: Enforces governance, standards, and compliance. Monitors projects and ensures adherence with moderate control.
3️⃣ Directive PMO: Directly manages projects and resources. Takes full control of project execution & delivery.
Each type plays a crucial role in aligning projects with organizational goals.
Choose the one that fits your environment and maturity best.

🚀 Master RACI Matrix for Your Projects Success!
The PMBOK® Guide emphasizes the critical role of stakeholder engagement and clear responsibility assignment. A well-crafted RACI chart directly supports this by:
✓ Eliminating the "I thought YOU were doing it" problem
✓ Preventing too many cooks in the kitchen (or worse, none at all)
✓ Creating transparency across cross-functional teams
✓ Reducing decision-making bottlenecks
RACI is a simple grid with tasks on rows and roles on columns, using **R**responsible (does the work), **A**accountable (owns the outcome), **C**consulted (provides input), **I**informed (kept updated).

🚀 Pro Tips from the Field:
One "A" per deliverable - Multiple accountable parties = zero accountability
Don't overuse "C" - Too many consultations slow everything down.

🚀 Real Impact:
A RACI matrix isn't bureaucracy—it's clarity. And in project management, clarity is currency.

🚧 Key Delay Analysis Techniques Reviewed by Nuhu Braimah 🚧

This insightful paper dives deep into construction delay analysis, reviewing critical methods used for resolving claims and disputes in project management. These techniques help pinpoint responsibility for delays, but each has unique strengths and pitfalls that pros like schedulers in construction should master.
Impacted As-Planned: This method simulates delays by overlaying them onto the original baseline schedule, showing potential impacts without actual progress data. It’s quick but often criticized for ignoring real-world changes like logic revisions or as-built conditions.
As-Planned vs. As-Built: By comparing the planned critical path against what actually happened, it highlights variances. However, it relies heavily on subjective critical path selection and can be manipulated if records are incomplete.
Collapsed As-Built (But-for Method): Starts with the final as-built schedule and “collapses” out delays to reveal what the project duration would have been without them. It’s dynamic and evidence-based, yet demands precise as-built data and can be software-intensive.
Window Analysis (Time Impact Analysis): Divides the project into time “windows” based on schedule updates, analyzing delays within each period. Ideal for complex projects with frequent changes, but it’s labor-intensive and requires comprehensive update records.
The paper highlights common issues like handling concurrent delays, pacing, resource leveling, and software limitations urging better standards for reliable, equitable results. Essential reading for anyone using Primavera P6 or MS Project in Ethiopia’s construction scene!

📅Project scheduling

💫In construction, a well-planned schedule is the backbone of every successful project. Without a solid plan, delays pile up, costs spiral out of control, and crews waste valuable time waiting for the next step.

Project scheduling isn’t just about dates on a calendar—it’s about keeping materials, equipment, and manpower moving like a well-oiled machine. Whether you’re managing a high-rise, a bridge, or a residential development, a solid schedule ensures that every phase flows seamlessly from start to finish.

📌 What is Project Scheduling?
In construction, every project has a sequence of steps that must be followed to keep things on track. Project scheduling is the process of organizing those steps into a clear timeline, ensuring that:

✅ Work progresses logically and efficiently
✅ Crews, subcontractors, and materials arrive at the right time
✅ Delays are minimized, and risks are reduced
✅ The project stays within budget

A strong schedule is like a roadmap—it tells your team where they need to be, what needs to happen next, and what could cause bottlenecks if not managed properly.

📊 Gantt Charts – The Blueprint for Time Management
What is a Gantt Chart?
A Gantt chart is one of the most widely used tools in construction scheduling. Think of it as a visual roadmap that lays out the entire project timeline in a bar chart format. Each task has a start and end date, making it easy to see what’s happening and when.

🔹 Key Elements of a Gantt Chart:
📌 Task List – All project activities (e.g., site clearance, bulk excavation, foundation concrete, electrical, roofing)
📌 Bars – The duration of each task
📌 Dependencies – How tasks are linked (e.g., you can’t pour concrete before formwork is done)
📌 Milestones – Major project checkpoints (e.g., completion of structural work)

🔹 Why Construction Teams Love Gantt Charts:
✅ Clear, at-a-glance scheduling for project managers and site supervisors
✅ Tracks overlapping activities—helps manage multiple subcontractors working at once
✅ Quickly highlights delays so adjustments can be made in real-time

🔗 Critical Path Method (CPM)
📍 What is CPM?
The Critical Path Method (CPM) is a powerful scheduling technique used in construction to identify the longest sequence of dependent tasks that determine the project’s overall duration.

💡 How It Works
1️⃣ Break the project into tasks and subtasks
2️⃣ Assign estimated durations to each task
3️⃣ Identify dependencies (which tasks must happen before others can begin)
4️⃣ Calculate the longest path of tasks that, if delayed, will extend the entire project timeline.

📌 Why is CPM Critical in Construction?
✔️ Helps prevent costly delays by focusing on the most time-sensitive tasks
✔️ Prioritizes work that directly affects project completion
✔️ Allows managers to adjust schedules dynamically when unexpected issues arise.

It will continue....

👉Construction Productivity Benchmarks

🌟Construction productivity benchmarks are standard reference values used to estimate how much work a worker, crew, or machine can complete within a given time.

⬆️They help engineers, contractors, and project managers prepare realistic schedules, estimate labor requirements, control costs, and monitor project performance.

⏺Actual productivity varies depending on worker skill, equipment efficiency, site conditions, weather, material availability, supervision, and project complexity.

🗂Typical Productivity Benchmarks:

🚜 Excavation (Backhoe): 200–500 m³/day

🏗️ PCC (Plain Cement Concrete): 25–60 m³/day

🪣 RCC Placement: 20–50 m³/day

🔩 Reinforcement Fixing: 500–1,000 kg/man/day

🪚 Formwork (Shuttering): 8–15 m²/man/day

🧱 Brickwork: 1–2 m³/mason/day

🏠 Plastering: 10–15 m²/mason/day

🟫 Floor Tiling: 15–25 m²/mason/day

🎨 Painting (2 Coats): 40–80 m²/painter/day

🔧 General Finishing: Depends on scope, quality requirements, and detailing

☄Productivity Formula:

> Productivity = Total Work Completed ÷ Total Labor Hours

🔆Monitoring productivity regularly helps identify delays, optimize manpower, reduce waste, improve planning, and ensure timely project completion.
