Handing over the body does not end the story, it opens the door to questions about what happened inside detention. An investigation must be launched into the death of the young man, Ahmad Al-Dayeh inside a detention centre in Syria, to determine the circumstances surrounding his death and hold accountable anyone found responsible or negligent.

Once again, Israeli authorities have extended the detention of Palestinian doctor Hussam Abu Safiya, while he continues to be held under harsh conditions.

Israel pursues arbitrary proceedings against two Sumud Flotilla activists after abduction in international waters and torture

The Israeli subjection of Spanish activist Saif Abu Keshek and Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila to arbitrary judicial and investigative procedures following their abduction in international waters is extremely concerning. The Israeli navy unlawfully intercepted vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters near Greece while the flotilla was carrying out a declared civilian humanitarian mission to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip and lift the blockade.

Both activists appeared this morning before the Israeli Magistrate’s Court in Ashkelon for the second time in two days, in hearings to extend their detention following their unlawful transfer to Israel.

Yemen: Assassination of Wissam Qaed targets humanitarian work, signals resurgence of extrajudicial killings

The abduction and assassination of the Acting Executive Director of the Social Fund for Development, Wissam Qaed, in Aden, southern Yemen, constitutes an unlawful killing and arbitrary deprivation of life. It raises serious concerns about the resurgence of extrajudicial killings in Aden amid continued impunity for similar violations.

An immediate, independent, and effective investigation into the circumstances of the crime must be launched to uncover the truth and hold all those responsible accountable. Targeting a prominent civilian figure at a key development institution, regardless of the motives, deepens fear and insecurity among those working in the civil, humanitarian, and development sectors and may undermine their ability to operate safely.

Israel’s campaign against The New York Times and human rights organisations, an attempt to obscure torture and sexual violence in its prisons

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor is following with grave concern the organised official Israeli campaign that culminated in statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar after The New York Times published an article by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nicholas Kristof, titled The Silence That Meets the Rape of Palestinians, which documented testimonies from 14 men and women who said they were subjected to rape, torture, and other forms of sexual violence in Israeli detention facilities.

Instead of calling for an independent and transparent investigation into these serious allegations, or allowing international investigators, forensic experts, UN observers, and the International Committee of the Red Cross access to detention facilities, the Israeli government responded by attacking the journalist, the newspaper, and the human rights organisations that documented or helped expose these violations. This reflects a clear attempt to shift attention away from the substance of the testimonies and evidence and toward discrediting their sources.

Lebanon: Israeli military escalation entrenches mass dispossession, threatens territorial integrity

After 15 years of fieldwork, Euro-Med Monitor shuts down Gaza office amid Israeli targeting campaign

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor announced the closure of its office in the Gaza Strip after nearly 15 years of operation, as a precautionary step following the recent Israeli threats, defamation, and punitive measures against the organisation and its staff. These measures come in response to Euro-Med Monitor’s professional documentation of the genocide Israel has been committing in the Gaza Strip since October 2023.

In recent weeks, especially following the release of a report detailing sexual violence crimes against Palestinians in Israeli prisons and detention centres, Israeli officials, government entities, ministers, public figures, and major propaganda channels have initiated a coordinated campaign of incitement and defamation targeting Euro-Med Monitor and its staff.

The occupied West Bank is also under attack.

Alongside Israel's assault on Gaza, Palestinians in the West Bank continue to face killings, forced displacement, settler attacks, and attacks on places of worship.

Since October 2023, around 1,070 Palestinians, including at least 220 children, have been killed by the Israeli army and Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.

The European Parliament’s approval of the Return Regulation amendments marks a dark shift: faster deportations, external detention centres, and weakened protections for migrants and asylum seekers. It heightens the risk of refoulement and prolonged arbitrary detention, leaving those seeking safety increasingly exposed and abandoned by the systems meant to protect them.
