The resignation of Peter Murrell as SNP chief executive has led to renewed interest in the party's finances and questions surrounding the "missing" £600,000.

A Police Scotland investigation into allegations of fraud has been underway for 21 months, with officers also looking at a £107,000 loan made by Mr Murrell to help the party with cashflow problems in 2021.

His wife Nicola Sturgeon, the outgoing first minister, has said she doesn't recall when she learned of the loan and critics have said the affair raises questions about the couple's own personal finances.
