Keyhan Shahbazi, brother of death row prisoner Babak Shahbazi, wrote on X on Tuesday, September 16, that his brother’s third retrial request was rejected by the Supreme Court and that his life is now in danger. He added that Babak has not called since this morning and was likely transferred to solitary confinement for execution. Keyhan said the family will protest today in front of the Judiciary.

According to Tavaana, Branch 29 of the Supreme Court denied Babak Shahbazi’s appeal and denied his request for retrial. He has been charged with “sowing corruption on earth,” and he has been sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court. His sentence was later upheld by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court.

Political prisoner Ahmadreza Haeri also reported that Babak was transferred to the solitary cells of the special ward in Ghezel Hesar Prison, calling it a sign of imminent execution.

His family and children are currently gathered outside Ghezel Hesar Prison, calling on human rights organizations for urgent support.
