Case 09 — Bahram (pseudonym)
Ten years after his divorce, the threat of imprisonment still hung over Bahram’s life. His family paid five gold coins to secure his release after seven months in Evin Prison, but living expenses and the birth of his child left him unable to keep up with the installments. At the time this testimony was recorded, he was 11 gold coins behind on his payments and living in hiding for fear of being arrested again.

Case 10 — Ali (pseudonym)
Just one week after his wedding, Ali received notice of his wife’s claim for mehriyeh, which he says she had initiated before the wedding. The start of their married life marked the beginning of years of legal battles involving dozens of court cases.
