On 18 July 2023, Majid Tavakoli, an Iranian democracy activist, announced that he has been sentenced to five years imprisonment on the charge of congregation and collusion against national security and one year in prison on the charge of propagating against the government. In addition, Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran sentenced him to a two-year ban on online activities, a two-year ban from residing in Tehran, and a two-year international travel ban. According to Tavakoli, the court's ruling has been issued because of his recent writings and his "insistence on independent activity," however, there is no evidence of any connection with the hostile government and opponents.

Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) has found reliable reports about the death of
116 citizens in the Kurdish regions of western Iran and 15 Kurdish citizens who have also lost
their lives during the 2022 protests in other parts of the country. Other human rights groups also
have reported that, as of 11 January 2023, at least 121 Kurdish citizens have been reported dead
across the country. The youngest killed citizen was 15 years old, and the most senior casualty
was 70. At least 13 individuals among those killed were under 18, and five were women.
IHRDC has learned that at least 27 citizens died after being shot in their vital organs, including
the head and chest; metal pellets fired by security forces killed 13 citizens; 11 citizens died in
suspicious circumstances in prison or shortly after being released; 12 citizens were shot from
behind while they imposed no threat to government forces; six citizens were killed inside or in
front of their homes; six citizens were shot while riding a car; and two citizens were fatally shot
because of writing slogans on walls.
In several cases, unarmed citizens were fatally beaten on the head. One citizen died after having
been run over by a police vehicle, and another citizen lost his life due to respiratory failure after
security forces fired extensive tear gas. At least the bodies of 30 citizens were buried at night.
The families of at least six citizens had to pay money to the authorities to retrieve the remains of
their loved ones.
The available evidence and witnesses' accounts suggest that the Islamic Republic has committed
crimes against humanity, including murder, torture, imprisonment, rape, and other forms of
sexual violence in Iran’s Kurdish region.

In September 2022, several leaked documents revealed that the Armed Forces General Staff, the
Islamic Republic's highest military body, had instructed military commanders in different
provinces to confront protesters mercilessly. The first wave of violent suppression of protests
happened during the days afterward.
On September 19, at least four citizens were killed during sporadic protests in the majority Kurdish region of the western part of Iran. The next day, tensions escalated, and five individuals
were reported killed. On September 21, casualties increased dramatically as at least 11 citizens
died in West Azerbaijan, Kermanshah, and Ilam provinces. From October 8 to October 12, at
least 13 citizens lost their lives. In the week of October 23 to October 28, 15 more citizens were

The Iranian government has sentenced film and TV actress Afsaneh Bayegan to two years’ imprisonment and weekly visits to a psychologist for refusing to wear the Islamic veil. Bayegan’s two-year prison sentence is suspended for 5 years and she is barred from leaving Iran for two years.

یک مرد در تهران به اتهام رابطه خارج از ازدواج تحت عنوان زنای محصنه، توسط شعبه ۱۱ دادگاه کیفری یک این استان به اعدام محکوم شد. یک زن نیز در این رابطه به تحمل ضربات شلاق محکوم شد.
این پرونده از یک سال پیش در جریان است. ابتدا مردی یک شکایت در پلیس ثبت کرد. وی مدعی شد که همسرش به او خیانت کرده است.با شکایت این مرد، پلیس همسر او ژاله را بازداشت کرد. همچنین سامان مردی که متهم است با ژاله رابطه داشته نیز بازداشت شد.با ارسال پرونده به شعبه ۱۱ دادگاه کیفری استان تهران این شهروندان با اتهام زنای محصنه پای میز محاکمه رفتند.
در پایان قضات وارد شور شدند و سامان را به اعدام و ژاله را نیز به شلاق و کار عام‌المنفعه محکوم کردند.
بر طبق مادهٔ ۲۲۵ قانون مجازات اسلامی مصوب ۱۳۹۲ مجازات زنای محصنه سنگسار است اما این ماده به قوهٔ قضائیهٔ جمهوری اسلامی این اختیار را می‌دهد که به جای سنگسار مجازات اعدام را اجرا کند. تعیین مجازات برای روابط جنسی بین افراد بالغ که با رضایت وارد رابطهٔ جنسی شده‌اند نقض صریح تعهدات بین‌المللی حقوق بشری ایران است.

محمد سیف‌زاده، حقوقدان و وکیل دادگستری، در پیامی به «هم‌وطنان» گفت که «دادگاه‌های غیرقانونی انقلاب مرا به یک سال حبس محکوم کرده» و «این محکومیت در شعبه ۳۶ دادگاه تجدیدنظر تأیید شده» است.
این حقوقدان اعلام کرد که اتهامش، «تبلیغ علیه نظام» به استناد قانون اساسی جمهوری اسلامی، بوده است.
وی اشاره کرد که این اتهام، با وجود «هزاران ایراد» به قانون اساسی، «بستن دهان مردم است که کسی از این رژیم انتقاد نکند.»
این حقوقدان که پیش از این پنج سال زندانی بود، گفت که دچار بیماری قلبی است و در دوره پیشین زندان «هفت بار سکته» کرده و همچنین دچار «قطع تنفس» است و «تمام مدارک» مربوط به بیماری‌هایش در «دادستانی و پزشکی قانونی در آن سال وجود دارد.»

مجید خادمی، فعال مدنی اهل بهبهان که پیش از این در مجموع به ۱۰ سال زندان محکوم شده بود، بار دیگر «با شکایت دادستان» به دادسرای عمومی و انقلاب اسلامی بهبهان احضار شد.
شکایت دادستان در رابطه با اتهام «خرید و فروش یا نگهداری یا حمل و نقل یا مخفی کردن یا ساختن مواد محترقه و منفجره و اخلال در نظم و آسایش عمومی و تخریب و احراق با مواد منفجره» است.
مجید خادمی باید صبح روز ۱۶ مرداد در شعبه ۱۰۲ دادگاه کیفری دو بهبهان در استان خوزستان حاضر شود.
پیش از این، مجید خادمی، معترض بازداشت‌شده در دی ۱۳۹۸ در بهبهان، توسط دادگاه انقلاب اسلامی ماهشهر علاوه بر ۱۰ سال و سه ماه حبس تعزیری که شش سال و سه ماه آن اجرایی است، به دو سال ممنوعیت خروج از کشور و همچنین محرومیت از عضویت در گروه‌های سیاسی و اجتماعی محکوم شده است.
