From November 15 to November 21, At Least 45 Citizens Were Killed During the Second Wave of suppression of Protests in the Kurdish Region.
In the very same week of November 2022, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had asked the security apparatus to end the nationwide protests, which he described as “wickedness” by a small group of people.
Following his speech, hundreds of troops were deployed to the majority-Kurdish areas, where they shot directly at protestors, raided houses, arrested dozens of citizens, cut off electricity and the Internet, and placed curfews.

In late October 2022, the Kurdish region of western Iran was already caught up in the turmoil of "women, life, freedom" protests.  

In Mahabad, the clashes escalated after security forces killed Ismaeil (Semko) Mauludi. On October 27, thousands joined the funeral procession, which became an anti-government demonstration.

In a series of social media posts, IHRDC revisits the violent suppression of the 2022 protests in the Kurdish region of Iran.
In the face of "Women, Life, Freedom" demonstrations, the Islamic Republic's authorities
employed an iron fist nationwide. Mahabad was one of the cities that suffered the most repression.
On November 17 and November 18, security forces shot at protestors with live ammunition, leaving several injured and four dead. Large crowds joined the funeral procession of the killed
protestors, which soon turned into anti-government protests.
On November 20, the authorities handed over the security affairs of Mahabad to the command of the IRGC Hamzeh base located in Oroumieh. After that, IRGC forces equipped with armed vehicles and heavy artillery were stationed in various parts of the city. They enforced a curfew and undertook heavy-handed repression.

On November 20,protesters in Javanrud came to the streets as news of violent repression in Mahabad spread.
• Two citizens, including a 16-year-old teenage boy, were killed during the clashes, and many others were injured by live ammunition fired indiscriminately into the crowd by security forces. The next day, thousands of people attended the funeral of killed citizens, which quickly grew into an anti-government protest.
