The Battle of Kursk began on 5 July 1943. One of the greatest tank battles of all time. The German offensive, called Operation Zitadelle, wanted to isolate the Kursk salient with a pincer attack. From south to north from Kharkiv, and from north to south from Orel. The first penetrates up to 30km into the Soviet defenses before stopping, the second breaks through for 50km. The date of the attack was postponed because Hitler was waiting for the new Ferdinand heavy self-propelled vehicles. The Soviets had already been expecting the attack for months and several Wehrmacht generals were sceptical about the operation. It was the last major German offensive on the Eastern Front of the Second World War.

A Russian T90MS (export version diverted from sale to India) used as field artillery and destroyed by a rare BONUS/SMART 155mm munition.
This type of weapon consists in a pair of bomblets deployed by a common 155 artillery round, that descend on target and find it thanks to LIDAR/Thermal or radar sensors.
