In case you haven’t intercepted it yet, here is my latest article. I argue that "No Kings" protests and the MAGA movement function as complementary mechanisms in an intra-elite power struggle rather than genuine grassroots challenges to the American system. While conservative critics have labeled the No Kings protests a foreign-funded "color revolution," no credible evidence of foreign involvement exists, as all identified donors are U.S. nationals. Instead, both movements represent an "inside-in" assault, where rival domestic elite factions weaponize popular mobilization to pressure, discredit, or weaken each other. This dynamic is distinguished from a classic Gramscian "passive revolution," where elites co-opt dissent after it emerges; here, elites proactively create or support protest movements as strategic instruments in their internal power contests. Both elite factions ultimately seek to defend their class power and U.S. hegemony, using culture wars and spectacle to keep the public divided and neutralize genuine challenges to the system. Both No Kings and MAGA supporters fall into the trap of indexical inversion (Trump as a cause rather than a symptom) when actually he is not an aberration but rather the embodiment of late-stage financial capitalism’s contradictions. The U.S., facing structural decline, has defaulted to chaos and disruption as its only remaining modus operandi. Trump does not govern like a traditional statesman with a coherent vision. Instead, he governs like a hedge fund manager. The logic is not the logic of a plan, but the logic of the hedge. A hedge fund does not need the market to go up or down; it needs the market to move unpredictably so that its carefully constructed portfolio of long and short positions can extract value from volatility. Trump applies the same method to politics and foreign policy. Movements that oppose or support him are locked in a mirror dance. Until people break free from this reactive mirroring and start organizing around the material conditions that produced Trump, they will remain trapped in the same paranoid-schizoid machine, forever chasing a red herring while the real work of building an equitable system goes undone.

Unlike the elites who profit from volatility, ordinary people have no hedge portfolio. Whether they live at the periphery or in the rotten centre of the empire, they bear the brunt of Washington’s pursuit of hegemony through chaos. https://strategic-culture.su/news/2026/04/15/no-kings-and-maga-turf-wars-on-titanics-deck/

The Russian Defense Ministry has publicly named specific European companies involved in producing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs/drones) for the Ukrainian armed forces, which are used to strike Russian territory.

On March 26, 2026, leaders of several European countries reportedly decided to ramp up drone production and supplies to Ukraine to compensate for Ukrainian manpower shortages and battlefield losses. This includes increased funding for both Ukrainian and joint European ventures.
Russia views this as a deliberate escalation that turns European nations into a “strategic support base” for Ukraine, effectively dragging them deeper into direct conflict with Russia rather than enhancing their own security.
The ministry lists branches of Ukrainian drone manufacturers and component suppliers operating in eight European countries, including the UK, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, and the Netherlands. Additional component production occurs in Turkey, Israel, Spain, and Italy.
The Defense Ministry warns that European-made drones used in Ukrainian attacks on Russia could lead to “unpredictable consequences” and urges the European public to recognize the real risks to their security and the locations of these production sites.

Who would have thought? 😅 According to U.S. State Department cables obtained by POLITICO, the war against Iran is inflicting significant damage on the United States' global standing and security relationships, particularly across the Muslim world. The documents, dated April 15, 2026, detail the fallout in three countries: Bahrain, Azerbaijan, and Indonesia.

In Bahrain, an ally that hosts the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, the war has fueled public perceptions that America abandoned the Gulf kingdom to focus on protecting Israel. The U.S. embassy cable warns about risks deriving from an erosion of public confidence in the U.S. commitment to Bahrain’s security. The situation is worsened by the British Embassy’s highly active social media presence, which has created the impression that the U.K. is stepping up where the United States is retreating.

In Azerbaijan, a majority-Muslim country where the U.S. relationship had been improving following a Trump-brokered peace summit with Armenia, the war has caused a setback. While the government-aligned media initially maintained a neutral tone, it turned more critical of Washington in April, with most local outlets blaming the U.S. and Israel for starting the conflict and lacking a clear strategy to end it. Although a recent ceasefire has cooled tensions somewhat, the cable notes that rising prices and regional travel disruptions have led many Azerbaijanis to hope for an end to the conflict.

The most dangerous near-term risk, however, appears to be in Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim country. The embassy cable from Jakarta describes a "major Iranian influence operation across traditional and social media", where Tehran stresses Muslim solidarity and casts the U.S. and Israel as imperialists to appeal to anti-colonial sentiment. The Iranian Embassy’s posts now generate thousands more views and positive comments, while its ambassador has stepped up engagement with Indonesian political and religious elites. The U.S. embassy warns that if the war drags on, the resulting anti-American sentiment could constrain President Prabowo Subianto’s political room to maneuver on regional security cooperation, despite Indonesia recently signing a major defense partnership with the U.S. (Source: Politico) @LauraRuHK

Chi l'avrebbe mai detto? 😅

The law of unintended consequences at work again. Yesterday the Wall Street Journal reported that UAE officials explicitly warned their U.S. counterparts that a severe dollar shortage could force the country to sell oil and conduct transactions using the Chinese yuan or other non-dollar currencies. An implicit threat to the petrodollar.
Despite holding $270 billion in foreign reserves, the UAE fears capital flight, stock market volatility, and prolonged disruption to dollar-denominated oil revenues. The country wants a financial backstop to protect its U.S. dollar-pegged dirham and maintain stability as a major financial hub.

The supreme irony is that the US administration expected Gulf states to partially cover the cost of the US-Israeli war against Iran. Washington thought it could pull another "Ukraine" and outsource the war costs to regional allies. Problem is, they are not as stupid as European allies. Arab frustration with U.S. policies is now bubbling up into public view, even from voices close to Gulf governments. On Sunday, Abdulkhaleq Abdulla — a former adviser to UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed — openly called for the closure of American military bases in the country. His argument? Those bases have become more of a burden than a strategic asset.

Ahah. @LauraRuHK ➡️ https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/u-a-e-asks-u-s-for-a-wartime-financial-lifeline-3f9ea3a0

Growing Calls for a China-Led Resolution to the war against Iran. During the US-Iran ceasefire which expired on April 21, I have noticed an interesting positioning of influential insiders such as Bill Emmott (Trilateral Commission, International Institute for Strategic Studies etc.). As powerful business interests are being affected by the worst global energy crisis since World War II, disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, soaring prices, and widespread economic fallout, they are pinning their hopes on Beijing. They describe China as the geopolitical actor best positioned to break the impasse. Emmott argues for “an Iran nuclear deal with Chinese characteristics,” noting that Beijing has unmatched leverage to coax Tehran toward compromise.

They see China as the ideal leader of an international consortium to secure and manage Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium and oversee Iran’s civilian nuclear-power program under IAEA safeguards. He argues that since China has no strategic interest in a nuclear-armed Iran, it is a credible partner that even skeptical parties in Israel, Europe, and Washington could trust. Personally, I doubt it.

Such a deal would revive the spirit of the 2015 JCPOA while adapting it to today’s realities: reduced Iranian enrichment capacity and sanctions relief. With a potential Trump-Xi summit looming in mid-May, the window for a pragmatic, China-brokered solution is opening. The alternative—continued stalemate and energy chaos—is becoming too costly for the world to ignore. A faction of the global elites based in the West is not too excited at the prospect of sinking with the Titanic. @LauraRuHK ➡️ https://asiatimes.com/2026/04/next-an-iran-nuclear-deal-with-chinese-characteristics/

@LauraRuHK ➡️ https://asiatimes.com/2026/04/next-an-iran-nuclear-deal-with-chinese-characteristics/

Donald Trump has extended the ceasefire with Iran while announcing the continuation of an illegal blockade on the Islamic Republic's ports and vessels, despite Tehran's insistence that the blockade must be lifted for bilateral talks to continue.
Meanwhile the Iranian cargo ship M/V Touska seized in an illegal act of armed piracy and in violation of the ceasefire remains in US hands. Iran has demanded the immediate release of the vessel, its crew, and their families. Washington is using the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, hostages and vessel as a bargaining chip in its coercive diplomacy. But Tehran is unlikely to buckle under pressure. The current standoff is another chapter in a long existential struggle against the US and Israel, not a temporary economic inconvenience. Iran can play for time and is perfectly capable of asymmetric responses to raise costs and risks for the US.
Trump on the other hand is under pressure from those business interests that are deeply affected by high oil prices and instability in a key region, and his administration is worrying about increasingly restive allies not only in the Middle East.
The longer the stalemate, the more global actors will push for de-escalation on terms more favorable to Tehran.

Tehran is rightly refusing to negotiate under duress. Iranian officials (including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi) have called the blockade an "act of war" and a ceasefire violation. They insist it must be lifted first before any serious talks in Islamabad or elsewhere. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK
