As Former Greek Finance Minister Yannis Varoufakis once stated, "Greece manifests the greatest example of Israelization… more than any other country in Europe." If you need more supporting evidence of Israel's increasing influence in Greece and the rest of Europe, read further. On August 31, Israel and Greece signed a €3.035 billion defense agreement named “Achilles Shield,” one of the largest in Israel's history.
Under the agreement, Israel will build a comprehensive, multi-layered air-defense network for Greece. It didn't work so well against Iranian rockets and drones, but hey, it's kosher and it would be anti-semitic to criticize it.😉 The system integrates several Israeli-made platforms—David’s Sling, BARAK MX, and SPYDER interceptors—alongside Israeli radars and a national command system designed to counter ballistic missiles, aircraft, and drones. A supplementary €26 million contract will see Israel supply Greece with Rafael's Drone Dome systems to protect strategic sites.
The deal also involves 19 Greek companies, accounting for more than €750 million of the program, with plans to build a domestic production base capable of exporting equipment. The agreement is part of a rapidly deepening security partnership that already included expanded cooperation on drones, underwater-vehicle swarms, cyber threats, and military exercises.
The "Achilles Shield" is yet more evidence of Israeli expansion across Europe, occurring against a backdrop of increasing international isolation and mounting global criticism.
In recent years, Israel has secured major air-defense contracts with several European nations besides Greece: Germany purchased the Arrow 3 system in 2023, Finland acquired David's Sling in 2024.
In 2026, Israel secretly signed a memorandum of understanding to extend defense cooperation with Finland until 2034, covering research, development, and equipment purchasing. Israel, by embedding its defense systems into European militaries, secures long-term revenue streams, deepens political ties, and creates a web of dependencies that insulates it from diplomatic isolation. Every European country that buys Israeli air defenses becomes, in effect, a stakeholder in Israel's defense industry—and thus less likely to support punitive measures against it. The genocidal maniacs have found a way to secure their impunity. Strengthening cooperation with the Axis of Resistence led by Iran will make even more sense for any country in the EU's crosshairs. @LauraRuHK

The article's argument that the US bears the costs of war while China reaps economic benefits is quite seductive. There is a pattern: the US destroys, China rebuilds, the US alienates countries, China steps into the void and offers an alternative, the US bullies, China listens. There is no denying that Washington's short-termism has undoubtedly created opportunities for Chinese economic expansion. Although Hua Bin cherry-picks data (who doesn't?) and not all figures are up-to-date (for instance March 2026 solar exports doubled to 68 GW; the 24% figure appears to understate actual growth, while other figures are slightly exaggerated) his article is illuminating. @LauraRuHK ➡️https://substack.com/home/post/p-213654865

Key takeaways from the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek:
▪️The summit’s overarching message was that Eurasian nations will not yield to Western pressure or sanctions, reinforcing the SCO as a vital alternative platform in a polarized world. ▪️Hosted by Kyrgyzstan to mark the SCO’s 25th anniversary, the event gathered all 10 member states (China, Russia, Iran, India, Pakistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan), alongside Turkey as a dialogue partner, and Armenia and Azerbaijan as SCO+ guests.
▪️Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian attended despite recent US threats of secondary sanctions on Iran's trade partners. His bilateral talks with President Putin highlighted the significantly deepened military and economic alliance between the two most sanctioned nations in the world.
▪️Despite Yerevan’s recent political pivot toward the EU and the US, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s attendance—and his bilateral meetings with both Modi and Putin—proved that Armenia cannot afford to ignore Eurasian economic and security frameworks.
▪️The summit yielded 28 documents, including a declaration reaffirming commitment to the UN Charter and international law. It explicitly called for a more just, multipolar world order, reforms to global governance, and an end to "double standards" on human rights.
▪️Pakistan officially assumed the SCO’s rotating chairmanship from Kyrgyzstan, setting the agenda for the organization's next phase of development. @LauraRuHK

Russia has rejected German claims that it was behind a suspected drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport in early August, dismissing the allegations as a “far-fetched” pretext to further strain bilateral relations.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday that Berlin had failed to provide any evidence to substantiate its claims.
Her remarks came after German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced new measures against Russia, which they linked to the August 4 incident.
The measures include closing the Russian Consulate General in Bonn from September 18 and terminating the lease of the Russian House in Berlin. Germany will also tighten border controls for Russian nationals, draw up a new list of individuals for EU sanctions, and increase pressure on what Berlin calls Russia’s “shadow fleet.”
Germany has “failed to present any even remotely convincing or serious evidence” of Russian involvement, Zakharova said on Telegram on Tuesday. “There is none and there cannot be any,” she added.
Berlin “will get a fitting response,” she warned.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also accused Germany of pursuing further escalation, saying Berlin had failed to provide any arguments substantiating its accusations against Moscow.
German officials have called for the closure of Russian diplomatic missions and the Russian House, a cultural and language center in Berlin, for some time.

Alex Karp and Mykhailo Fedorov met on Aug. 31 at Palantir's office in Washington, where the two discussed a new military tech start-up founded by Ukraine's former defence minister and financed with Palantir's seed capital.
The new company will apply Fedorov's experience to the development of new weapon systems.
"We've worked together for half a decade. I have been absolutely inspired by what you and the Ukrainians have pulled off, and I am super delighted that we could play a part. And you and your colleagues are launching a company that I think will be defining for the world, bringing your knowledge and acumen about the art of war as a product to allied countries," Karp said. From Ukraine's kill chain, to war crimes in Gaza, to ICE deportations, and to the endless global applications that a technofascist can dream of. @LauraRuHK

Vladimir Putin declared on Tuesday that Ukraine’s ambitious 40-day campaign to inflict "irreparable damage" on Russia's energy and logistics infrastructure to cripple the Russian economy has failed, triggering a devastating Russian retaliation.
Speaking at a press conference following the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Putin explained that Ukraine faces three crises after opening a "Pandora’s box".
Ukraine is barely making ends meet and could now face currency, budget and banking crises.
💬 “They spend a little over $8 billion a month on imports. They receive about $3 billion from exports, mainly grain and other agricultural products. And another $5 billion comes from Western handouts,” Putin stressed.
He warned that problems with agricultural exports could wipe out much of Ukraine's own foreign-currency earnings, hit farmers and banks, and deepen the strain on its economy.
Putin also slammed Zelensky’s threats against Russian civilian aviation as “a declaration of state terrorism”
The rhetoric escalated sharply on Tuesday when Zelensky warned airlines, insurers, and airports that Russian airspace is becoming “completely unsafe” and would be filled with Ukrainian drones. “Drone-infested skies are no place for civilian aviation,” Zelensky said.
“Today, we want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, and everyone who still uses Russia’s key airports.”
Putin rejected any suggestion of negotiations with terrorists. He warned that if Ukraine tries to turn those threats into real tragedies, “We will find something to respond with. Let no one doubt.”
These Ukrainian threats come as most Western airlines already avoid Russian airspace, but carriers from the rest of the world continue to fly to and from Russia. They cast new light on Germany's accusations against Moscow over the explosive drone found at Leipzig/Halle airport on August 4. It appears that a coordinated campaign is underway to project onto Russia the beginning of those terrorist attacks against civil aviation that the Kiev regime intends to launch with the blessing and assistance of its curators and sponsors. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

A European Commission delegation, led by the EU's top trade enforcement officer Denis Redonnet, is locked in high-stakes talks with Chinese officials in Beijing. As usual the EU is accusing China of "industrial overcapacity, turbo-boosted by undeclared subsidies" and demanding that Beijing commit to reducing its surging exports to the bloc before an October deadline. The EU's accusations are hypocritical and self-defeating. China has never deliberately pursued a trade surplus with Europe. The current trade structure is the result of international industrial division and comparative advantage. If the EU insists on labelling trade surpluses as "overcapacity," then should European exports of automobiles, pharmaceuticals, wine, and cosmetics also be labelled as "overcapacity"? European countries themselves provide state support to their own industries, from Airbus to agriculture. The EU's real problem is not Chinese "overcapacity" but its own declining competitiveness. Take for example European energy prices; they are two to three times higher than in China. Blaming China for Europe's self-inflicted wounds is completely dishonest. If Brussels proceeds with punitive measures, Beijing will have no choice but to respond in kind. A trade war would hurt both sides, but it would expose Europe's dependence on Chinese supply chains far more painfully than it would hurt China.
As to the EU October deadline, it is a self-imposed trap. Brussels would do well to remember that you cannot impose ultimatums and bully your largest trading partner into submission. @LauraRuHK

Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of Al Mayadeen’s The Grand Standoff: Iran and the World, Professor Mohammad Marandi said US President Donald Trump’s threats have had “absolutely no impact” on Iran, its leadership, its armed forces, or the overwhelming majority of ordinary Iranians.
He said Iranians “are not going to back down at all,” adding that they have been preparing for this stage for a very long time.
Professor Marandi said Iran currently holds the advantage, arguing that the United States is running low on offensive and air-defense missiles, while Iran maintains a substantial stockpile of missiles and drones.
He also said September is “actually a very ideal time” for Iran, for a host of reasons, for the war to take place.

In late 2025, a wave of mass hysteria over "mysterious drones" swept Northern Europe, triggering sightings from Denmark to Sweden. Despite zero wreckage or credible footage—Belgium’s defense minister even mistook a police helicopter for a drone—the panic was cynically exploited to accelerate rearmament. Denmark used the crisis to push a "European Drone Defence Initiative," while Belgium rushed a €50 million drone-detection purchase.
Now, the Leipzig/Halle airport incident has provided yet another pretext to ramp up anti-Russian hysteria. On August 4, drones carrying military explosives were found near a Ukrainian cargo aircraft. On September 1, Germany formally accused Russia claiming one suspect allegedly entered Germany on an Italian tourist visa while the other had a Latvian passport. The Russian Embassy dismissed the accusations as an "absurd" and "hastily concocted provocation."
The reconstruction offered by Western media has so many holes it brings back to mind the Navalny, Skripals and Nord Stream precedents. Nevertheless, Germany ordered the closure of Russia’s Bonn consulate and the Russian House in Berlin, while EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas pushed for broader visa bans on Russian nationals.
Most significantly, the incident is being leveraged to revive the confiscation of €200 billion in frozen Russian assets. Led by Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, and Poland, the push faced resistance from Belgium, Hungary, and Italy over legal concerns. The European Central Bank and legal experts have repeatedly warned that unlawful expropriation could devastate the euro’s global reserve status and expose the EU to hundreds of billions in liability.
From the phantom drones of 2025 to Leipzig in 2026, the pattern is clear: whip up hysteria and weaponize it to justify pre-existing goals like rearmament, diplomatic escalation, and asset confiscation.
As Russian Ambassador Sergey Nechayev noted, such events exclusively benefit the "militarist wing" of the European political class and arms manufacturers eager to exploit the Ukraine conflict. Ultimately, the question Europeans should ask is who profits from the latest "Russian scare". @LauraRuHK

Norwegian authorities have seized the Russian research vessel Professor Molchanov in Svalbard at the request of Ukraine’s state-owned energy company, Naftogaz. This vessel serves as a vital scientific and humanitarian lifeline for the Russian community in Barentsburg. While Moscow is preparing a legal challenge to this hostile overreach, such hostile actions should not go unanswered. A symmetrical response could readily include the reciprocal seizure of a Norwegian vessel operating in other jurisdictions. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

Estonia lost €70 million in an ammunition deal with an Indian company registered in Italy that had no prior experience producing artillery shells.
In 2024, Estonia’s State Centre for Defence Investments (RKIK) signed a contract with Datasel S.R.L. for artillery shells to be delivered to Ukraine within six to eight months.
The deal was funded through the EU’s European Peace Facility. Estonia paid Datasel approximately €70 million in advance.
According to the company, it received only €59 million. Don’t ask don’t tell where the remaining 11 million ended up. Datasel acknowledged production delays and claims to have delivered shells worth €58 million, a figure Estonia disputes.
When the ammunition finally arrived in 2025, it was reportedly “faulty” and “useless.” RKIK terminated the contract and demanded the return of the advance payments. Datasel refused, and the dispute is now in international arbitration.
Yesterday, Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur resigned.
