Morocco’s Nador West Med, located in the eastern Rif region of northeastern Morocco, welcomed the large container ship MSC Nita in late August 2026 for its first operational trial.

The $5 billion mega-port is designed to handle 5 million twenty-foot equivalent units annually, with a long-term target of 12 million. For Syria, it could potentially serve as a storage and transshipment hub for Syrian oil and gas, allowing exports to be transferred to larger vessels bound for European and American markets as Syria develops into a regional energy-transit hub.

The Syrian Minister of Energy and Syrian President al-Sharaa have reached an agreement regarding fuel pricing in Syria.

Minister of Energy:

"The entire production of these refineries for fuel oil will be allocated to provide a subsidized type at a price of 115 Syrian pounds per liter.

This fuel will be used for heating, agriculture, and eligible groups, with its distribution being organized in coordination between the Syrian Petroleum Company, the governorates, and relevant authorities to ensure it reaches those who are entitled to it.

In cooperation with our sister countries, we have secured a type of fuel oil at a price of 150 Syrian pounds per liter, designated for certain industrial, service, and heavy machinery uses.

This is being done in parallel with the continued provision of fuel oil that meets standard specifications at a price of 175 Syrian pounds per liter."
