American Muslim scholar, Yasir Qadhi, said Gaza’s largest mass funeral since the war began and Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan are “not unrelated”.
In a post on X, he argued that El-Sayed’s win despite tens of millions of dollars in outside spending signals a growing political backlash against US support for Israel’s war on Gaza and the influence of pro-Israel lobbying groups in American politics.
“These two news items are not unrelated. AIPAC and its allies spent a staggering $65 million on Abdul’s opponent, precisely because they wanted to continue using our taxes, our weapons, and our veto power to finance their genocide against Palestinian families.”

📰"Over the past decade, Israel has significantly increased its illegal confiscation of Palestinian land and settlement expansion. Around 750,000 Israeli settlers currently live in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. This expansion is achieved not only through individual acts of violence and terrorism, but more notably with the state’s full financial and military support.
Since 7 October 2023, the West Bank has experienced an extraordinary escalation of settler terrorism, with the full support of the Israeli army. Organised campaigns of settler terrorism, accompanied by substantial state changes to the territory’s colonial administrative and legal structure, have led to the displacement of Bedouins, the spread of pastoral outposts, and the increasing fragmentation of Palestinian communities"

Abdul El-Sayed defends stance against sending US tax dollars to Israel and other governments
During an interview with CNN's Kaitlan Collins, US Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed defended his opposition to sending military aid to Israel.
"I am against it, in large part because I just don't understand why anybody thinks it's the right thing to do to send our tax dollars abroad to fund foreign militaries when our own kids barely get to go to schools that are functional," he said.
El-Sayed added that he opposes sending military aid to any foreign government, arguing that people in Michigan "have a right to their tax dollars".

Has the Ceuta crisis revealed an emerging US-Israel-Morocco alliance?
Speaking to MEE Live's Mathilda Mallinson, Professor Stephen Zunes argues that the political fallout from the Ceuta migrant crisis reflects an emerging nexus between the United States, Israel and Morocco.
Zunes says Spain's outspoken criticism of Israel's war in Gaza and opposition to the US war on Iran left Madrid increasingly isolated as the Ceuta crisis began. He argues that, regardless of whether this was coordinated before the mass crossing, their interests converged in the response that followed.
He traces Morocco's role to the Abraham Accords, under which the Trump administration recognised Morocco's claim over Western Sahara in return for them normalising relations with Israel. This broke with the Arab League position that normalisation should come only after the end of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories.

Rats spread among the rubble of destroyed homes and accumulated waste in Gaza
A video posted by videographer Momen al-Moghanni shows rats and other rodents infesting the rubble of destroyed homes and piles of accumulated waste in Gaza.
Humanitarian organisations, including the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Save the Children, have warned that severe rodent and pest infestations are affecting more than 80% of displacement sites in Gaza.
They say uncollected rubbish, damaged sewage systems and rising temperatures are driving the crisis, placing thousands of children at risk of bites and disease.

📰Kurdish-led armed forces opened fire inside Syria’s Roj camp on 31 July, with bullets tearing through tents housing children, after several days of protests by women demanding better treatment inside the facility, according to multiple accounts shared with Middle East Eye.
No one was reported killed or wounded. But women inside the camp, which holds thousands of foreign women and children, relatives of suspected Islamic State (IS) group fighters, described a night of chaos and terror that has left them and their children severely traumatised.
MEE reviewed videos, images and voice recordings obtained from sources inside Roj camp, which appear to show the aftermath of the confrontation, including the sound of gunfire and scenes of panic among women and children.
Friday’s violence followed several days of what women in the camp described as peaceful protests demanding an end to alleged abuses and repatriation to their home countries.
