Washington Post says Trump flew out of Turkey secretly on a smaller plane
US President Donald Trump secretly left Turkey on a military aircraft last month amid an alleged Iranian assassination threat, The Washington Post reported, citing several sources.
According to an anonymous US official who spoke to the Post, Trump boarded an Air Force One jet in Ankara on 8 July but then moved into a catering container attached to the plane. The container transported him to a smaller C-32A aircraft, which took him to Britain, while the media and some officials were led to believe that Trump was still on the larger jet.

Netanyahu praises Colombia’s support for Israel’s occupation of Golan Heights
"The Israeli flag flies here, and it will continue to fly here, because this is our land.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted a video praising Colombia's president, Abelardo de la Espriella, for his decision to recognise Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights.
The Golan Heights is a Syrian territory occupied by Israel since Syria's defeat in the 1967 war against Israel.
Only one other country, the US, recognised Israel's claim of sovereignty over the territory.
The Syrian foreign ministry said on Tuesday that it "categorically rejects and condemns" Colombia's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights and said that the area "is an inseparable part of [Syrian] territory".

📰 Four US-based rights groups sued the Trump administration on Tuesday for its sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In a statement, the American Friends Service Committee, the Center for Constitutional Rights, Human Rights Watch, and the Open Society Institute called the sanctions "blatantly illegal".
They said they are being forced "to curtail a wide range of human rights and legal work in violation of... First and Fifth Amendment rights under the US Constitution and under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act", given that anyone who appears to associate with ICC cases or officials could now face legal repercussions.
Just days after he assumed power in late January 2025, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to sanction the ICC over its investigations into top Israeli officials

🗞️ “A new dawn has arrived in Britain. Andy Burnham has replaced Keir Starmer as prime minister. The Labour Party has arrested its seemingly irreversible slump, having learned its lessons, and is ready to resume governing, while addressing the concerns of ordinary people. Faith in politics has been restored.
At least, that appears to be the portrait that has been deftly constructed in the first fortnight of the new Burnham premiership…
One of the first things Burnham did in preparation for becoming prime minister was to issue an apology for Labour’s response to Israel’s assault on Gaza. ‘Labour’s initial response to the treatment of Gaza caused huge hurt. We got it wrong and I am sorry for that,’ he said, vowing to do better. He recently doubled down in an interview, saying Labour was too slow to call for a ceasefire"

PYM marches to commemorate Anas Al-Sharif murder one year anniversary
One year after Palestinian journalist Anas al-Sharif was killed in Gaza, protesters took to the streets of New York to remember him and demand accountability for the journalists still risking their lives to report from Gaza.
The Palestinian Youth Movement organized a march from The New York Times building to Times Square, accusing The New York Times and other Western media outlets of helping shape a narrative that protesters say has manufactured consent for Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
MEE's Mounira Elsamra spoke to protesters who demand press freedom in Gaza. Protesters tell MEE, that remembering al-Sharif means standing up for the journalists who continue to report from Gaza despite the risks.
International journalists remain barred from entering Gaza, while Palestinian journalists continue to report under devastating conditions.

Erdogan says Israel seeking to ‘remove’ Palestine from world agenda
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday accused Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's government of seeking to "remove Palestine" from the world's agenda.
"The aim of the Netanyahu government is to remove Palestine from the common agenda of humanity by profiting from chaos and new conflicts in the region," Erdogan said at a joint news conference with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas in Ankara.
"No matter what they do, they will not succeed. The Palestinian cause will continue to grow in people's hearts as they try to destroy it," he said, vowing Turkey would fight for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Israeli settlers attack Palestinian homes in occupied West Bank
Footage circulating online reportedly shows a group of Israeli settlers attacking, vandalising and attempting to break into Palestinian homes in the village of Taybeh in the occupied West Bank.
Taybeh, a Christian village close to Ramallah, has been declared a “closed military zone” by the Israeli military after months of repeated attacks by Israeli settlers.
Violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians has long been a feature in the West Bank, but it has intensified sharply since the war on Gaza began in 2023.
Settlers are now carrying out near-daily attacks on Palestinian villages and communities, which include vandalism, arson, forced displacement, and physical assaults, sometimes involving firearms.

📰 When Anas al-Sharif was killed in Gaza by an Israeli air strike one year ago, the Reuters news agency ran the headline, "Israel kills Al Jazeera journalist it says was Hamas leader".
In 2024, at the height of Israel's genocide in Gaza, Anas had helped Reuters win a Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography.
But the outlet chose to remember the 28-year-old within the scope of Israel's unproven narrative about him - as many other news organisations have done to more than 200 Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza since 2023.
As of Wednesday, a new project called The Living Record is looking to rectify that by telling the stories of slain Palestinian journalists through the eyes and experiences of their colleagues on the ground.
The oral history site launched with eulogies for 50 journalists, with dozens more to come later in the year.
