🇩🇪🤐📰In Germany in 2025, state media authorities referred at least 2,500 social media posts to criminal investigation services on suspicion of defamation and submitted nearly 4,000 removal requests to platforms.

🧠For several years, these authorities have been using artificial intelligence to monitor the internet and regularly discover content they deem illegal. In doing so, they act as law enforcement agencies, although without the mandate to do so.

❗️The role of state media authorities has long been criticized, as they are granted increasing powers that critics consider an infringement on freedom of expression.

🔄Nevertheless, the federal government intends to further expand the powers of these media authorities.
