Pavel Durov's custody coming to an end, court decision expected
The custody of Telegram boss Pavel Durov, arrested on 12 charges related to organized crime, is due to end on Wednesday and could lead to an indictment.
The French justice system accuses him of not taking action against the dissemination of criminal or offending content on Telegram, which has more than 900 million users. This is something the company denies.
The police custody, which can last up to 96 hours, has been extended until Wednesday. The investigating judges will then have to decide whether to request that he be brought before the Paris judicial court, with a view to a possible indictment.
If he were indicted and his pre-trial detention requested, a judge of liberties and detention would have to decide at the end of the day whether to imprison him or place him under judicial supervision. Pavel Durov could also be released from police custody, without legal proceedings at this stage.
