Since 2022, #israel’s #Unit8200 has been using a #surveillance program, hosted on a customized #Microsoft #Azure #cloud partition, to record and store voice recordings of millions of #Palestinian phone calls each day from Gaza and the West Bank.
The system operates at an enormous scale, capturing up to a million calls per hour and storing about 11,500 terabytes, which equals around 200 million hours of audio by mid-2025. The data has been used to plan airstrikes, carry out detentions, and even engage in the extortion or blackmail of Palestinians.
