HC Smoke
(Hexachloroethane Smoke)
a type of military obscurant smoke produced by pyrotechnic munitions containing hexachloroethane (C₂Cl₆), zinc oxide, and granular aluminium. When ignited, it generates a dense, white-to-gray smoke consisting mainly of zinc chloride (ZnCl₂) aerosol, which provides excellent screening and obscuration for tactical maneuvers. It was widely used in artillery shells, grenades, and smoke pots, especially during the 20th century, but has largely been phased out in many modern militaries due to its significant toxicity and environmental concerns.
