"Peace be upon you brother.
I am AJ (name removed for safety) from the Russian base in Hmeimim. I am reaching out to you… Please, if possible, make our voices heard—we, who are inside the airbase—and spread this as widely as possible. They are saying that there’s no one inside the airbase and that our numbers are between 500 and 1,000, but this is completely false. Our actual number exceeds 11,000 people inside the Russian base at Hmeimim.
The criminal terrorist gangs are coming to the base every day, trying by any means and in various ways to force us out. The day before yesterday, the governor came here along with the district director and met with the general in charge of the airport at the Russian base. They had a discussion in which the governor said: ‘We want to negotiate with the people here at the base. These are our people, and everyone should return to their homes.’
The general asked, ‘What guarantees can you provide?’ The governor replied, ‘We will offer them security and safety, return them to their jobs, pay their salaries, and repair the homes that have been damaged.’ The general then asked, ‘And what about the armed groups that are killing outside?’ The governor responded, ‘We have nothing to do with them.’
