Looks Like the Windows XP Source Code Just Leaked on 4chan

Would you believe more than 1% of computers worldwide are still using Windows XP? Incredibly, there are still millions of people using 19-year-old operating system. And a recent development โ€” if it bears out โ€” is another reason people need to make the switch to something newer.

On Thursday, users on 4chan posted what they claimed was the source code of Windows XP.

Posting an image of a screenshot allegedly of the source code in front of Windowโ€™s XP iconic Bliss background, one user wrote โ€˜sooooo Windows XP Source code leakedโ€™. Another Redditor helpfully has uploaded the code as a torrent, assisting in its spread.

While there is no confirmation that this code is definitely Windows XP, independent researchers have begun to pick through the source code and believe it stands up to scrutiny.

How to compile Windows Server 2003 - and compile Windows XP, (part 1)

From source code to ISO. Sit back, relax, and witness the miracle of creating a new build of Windows :)
Just to be clear from the start: As of now, there is NO way to completely compile Windows from the Source code, as it lacks some stuff... However, this is pretty close.

Signal finally updates public server code after months of silence

Signal Private Messenger has been a popular messaging platform for years, thanks to its focus on privacy and end-to-end encryption. The project has released the source code for every component of Signal, including the back-end server and client applications, but the public code for the server software was left outdated for months until just today.

Signal stores as little information as possible on remote servers, but there is still a server component for connecting users with phone numbers, sending push notifications, and other functionality. Signal has provided the source code for the server software on GitHub, making it possible for anyone to set up their own independent infrastructure. However, most people simply choose to use Signalโ€™s platform, since communication between the primary server and self-hosted servers (federation) is not supported.

After April 22 of last year, Signal stopped updating the public code repository for its server software. The move was concerning, given that Signalโ€™s open-source nature made it easier to perform security audits and ensure that the platform wasnโ€™t leaking private data. A GitHub issue about the lack of releases was created last month, following other discussions on Reddit and Signalโ€™s own community forum.

While Signal hasnโ€™t yet made a public statement about the gap in code releases, the project finally published hundreds of commits today to the public GitHub repository. The repository now shows many code commits completed throughout 2020 and 2021, bumping the latest-available server version from 3.21 to 5.48.

Itโ€™s still not clear why Signal went so long without updating its public server code, especially when the group has historically prided itself on being open and transparent. Weโ€™ve reached out to Signal for a statement, and weโ€™ll update our coverage when/if we get a response.

Judge Orders NSO Group to Surrender Pegasus Source Code to Meta | BitDefender - March 2024

A US Judge ordered the infamous spyware developer and vendor NSO Group to turn over its source code to Meta as part of an almost four-year lawsuit.

Meta sued NSO in 2019 after the American company discovered that a zero-day WhatsApp vulnerability was used to deploy the spyware. According to a Guardian report, the NSO's spyware was allegedly used against 1,400 people in the course of just two weeks.
