Contactless and digital-only payment methods such as Apple Pay and Android Pay will surge after the Covid-19 pandemic passes, a new report has found.

Britain is best placed to remain as a global hub for fintech investment despite Brexit and the recent lockdown, according to a new report by the Emerging Payments Association, which was commissioned by Luxembourg for Finance (LFF), a state-backed development agency.

The lengthy analysis of Europe’s payment methods tipped digital wallets to lead the change, replacing the more commonly used credit and debit cards.

#Obama: We Have to “Detoxify” the “Scourge of Disinformation and Conspiracy Theories and Hate Online”

Former US President Barack Obama made a fresh push for online censorship during an appearance at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit by calling for crackdowns on content that he deems to be “disinformation,” “hate,” or a “conspiracy theory.”

Before Obama took the stage, 2022 Obama Foundation Leader Sarah-Josephine Hjorth hinted at what was to come by railing against “fake news and misinformation.”

“While the increase in use of smartphones and social media first came with the whisper of renewed democratic participation, fake news and misinformation dominate the digital landscape and result in an erosion of the fabric of truth and polarization,” Hjorth said.

Shortly after taking the stage, Obama continued this theme by invoking the January 6 Capitol riot and tying it to “misinformation and conspiracy theories.”

“In my own country, the forces that unleashed mob violence on our Capitol are still churning out misinformation and conspiracy theories,” Obama said.

Towards the end of his speech, Obama made a more direct call for censorship of content that’s branded as a conspiracy theory, disinformation, or hate.

“We have to take steps to detoxify our discourse,” the former President said. “Particularly the scourge of disinformation and conspiracy theories and hate online that has polluted our political discourse.”

First, there is no such thing as "virus-infected cash." But the escalation does not stop.

In early 2020 we talked about the "coin shortage" meme, pointing out that fake virus fear would be used as yet another retarded excuse to hurry along the elimination of cash to usher in a One World Central Digital Currency (which will be connected to your non-anonymous Digital ID, which will be connected to your social credit score...).

China is the testing ground for all of this New World Order total surveillance state horror. Whatever sick operations you're seeing executed there now are intended to be rolled out across the entire world in the very near future.

#Cashless society? Why withdrawing cash in Belgium is getting even harder

Finding an ATM from which to withdraw money has always been notoriously difficult in Brussels, but it is now set to become even harder as the world slowly moves towards cashless societies.

Today, bank branches are keeping less cash for distribution, and anti-money laundering requires regular checks on withdrawals and the use of cash. Furthermore, Belgian financial federations, such as Febelfin, are actively promoting a cashless society.

This was the bind that Belgian citizen Arnold Declercq found himself in after he tried to withdraw €3,000 for an art auction. His bank only had €1,500 on hand, and promised he could collect the rest the week after. Upon requesting €3,000 instead, alarm bells started ringing at the bank.

Declercq had to explain what he needed the money for. “Apparently they didn’t think an art auction was a valid reason. I was then refused every cash withdrawal until further notice!” he tells VRT. “From now on, I was only allowed to request money if I could prove it with an invoice as proof.”


Better ways to pay

Belgian law states that a trader may accept a maximum of €3,000 in cash, but between private individuals there is no limitation for a cash payment. You can sell your car to another private individual for €20,000 without issues. “If you can prove to your bank what that money is for, you will normally get such a large sum without any problems,” says Marchand.


Cashless society

From 1 July, all merchants are required to accept at least one digital payment method. “But which one they’ll accept is up to them.”

While cash remains a legal tender, the federation does promote a society with less cash. “Digital payment is safer and has other advantages. Because cash also has a certain cost,” said Marchand.

The War on Cash Intensifies: Visa Offers Restaurants $10,000 to Go Cashless

Your favorite restaurant could be going cash free, and getting $10,000 from Visa to do it. It's all part of Visa's "war on cash."

Visa has declared war on cash and its "opening salvo" is to start paying restaurants $10,000 to go completely cash free.

The credit card giant is this week announcing a new plan to hand out thousands of dollars to up to 50 small food and restaurant vendors if they agree to stop taking cash.

Visa will also upgrade the restaurants' checkout terminals so they can accept contactless payments, like Apple Pay, and invest in some of the stores' marketing costs. When you pay at one of the stores you would only be able to do so with a credit or debit card, or via mobile payment. The program participants will be picked from an online application that starts in August.
