Blocking weirdos is not censorship?

We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm. In line with this approach, this week we are taking further action on so-called ‘QAnon’ activity across the service.

QAnon Website Shuts Down After N.J. Man Identified as Operator

A popular website for posts about the conspiracy group
QAnon abruptly shut down after a fact-checking group identified the developer as a New Jersey man.

Qmap.pub is among the largest websites promoting the QAnon conspiracy, with over 10 million visitors in July, according to web analytics firm SimilarWeb Ltd., and served as the primary archive of QAnon’s posts. The website aggregates posts by Q, the anonymous figure behind the QAnon theory, and the creator of the Qmap.pub website is known online only as “QAppAnon.”

The fact-checking site Logically.ai identified Jason Gelinas of New Jersey on Sept. 10 as the “developer and mouthpiece” for the site. New Jersey state records connect QAppAnon to Gelinas’s home address, Bloomberg found.

Reached outside his home, Gelinas declined to comment on the Logically report, saying only that someone had sent it to him on Twitter after it was published.

“I’m not going to comment on any of that,” Gelinas said when asked if he was behind the website Qmap. “I’m not going to get involved. I want to stay out of it.”

Wearing an American flag baseball cap, Gelinas said that QAnon is a “patriotic movement to save the country.”

An Update to Patreon’s Policies on QAnon

Today we are taking a step to address the
QAnon conspiracy theory on Patreon. Going forward, creator accounts that advance disinformation promoting the QAnon conspiracy theory will no longer be supported on Patreon.

Why are we taking this action?

While Patreon does not propagate this content directly, there are a small number of creators on the platform who have supported the QAnon conspiracy theory with their work. Because of this, and the fact that we have seen a number of other online platforms become overrun with pages and groups actively focused around QAnon disinformation, we are taking action. In an effort to assess and combat this growing threat, Patreon’s Policy and Trust & Safety teams have individually identified the creator accounts that have engaged in spreading QAnon-supporting disinformation.

Parler hacker targets on Telegram groups related to QAnon

The hacker who stole user data from the controversial Twitter alternative Parler is now taking care of Telegram groups she attributes to the
QAnon cosmos.

After the outage of the short messaging service Parler, users are looking for alternatives. At least in part, they seem to see them in the messenger Telegram, which has already proven itself many times as a place to go for people whose concerns can't find a home on other platforms.

Donk_Enby collects Telegram groups from the QAnon environment

A hacker, who can be found on Twitter under the account Donk_Enby, had already obtained - according to her own information - 70 terabytes of user data in the course of the Parler shutdown by Amazon and had made it publicly accessible. In doing so, she had exploited gaps in the system that the operator Parler itself had torn.

Now it has targeted the users who switched from Parler to Telegram and aggregated public invite URLs to Telegram groups from the QAnon environment via scraper. Telegram implemented the invite link feature in such a way that clicking on the link is enough to join the corresponding group and participate in the group chat. Donk_Enby has already collected over 700,000 such invite links.
