Remembrance of other than God is worse than being negligent towards Him, especially if one immerses himself in the remembrance of other than God. Unless we get involved in the remembrance of God, we will not attain proximity to Him. However, the further we get immersed in the remembrance of other than God, the further we distance ourselves from Him. With the remembrance of God, we will reach the pleasure of meeting with God, whereas with the remembrance of other than God we will get disgusted with that meeting,
solely indulging in illusory pleasures of this world.

When a human believes in God, he is thought of as a creature that can make the most of the world of existence, achieving the highest powers and pleasures. On the other hand, When he does not believe in God, he is like a creature that has gone stray, not having achieved what he yearned for, and at the end of the day he will attain nothing but distress and regret.

God is not, in fact, in need of such deeds of ours as saying prayers, and our inner feelings suffice to express our devotion towards Him as He can observe them; nevertheless, offering prayers is a kind of opportunity for us. Praying time is an occasion on which we can express our heartfelt devotion to God, thereby benefiting from it ourselves and increasing our devotion to Him by obeying the divine command further.

The minimum effect of prayer is detachment from this world and its maximum effect is attachment to God. He gives us the minimum effect Himself by taking our minds off this world; in this respect, we are like a child whose toys are taken away from him by force. However, attaining the maximum effect depends on the extent to which we are able to detach ourselves from those toys. If we experience attachment to God, we will fall in love with prayer.

The most extraordinary categorization, to which we are all oblivious, has been made in the Quran regarding different types of humans on the day of judgement. In Surah al-Waqi’ah, God explicitly states that you will be divided into three groups on the day of judgement. 1 – Good people, 2 – Bad people and 3 – leading group of people that will be the closest to me. This categorization should make us concern ourselves with being on the leading group rather than not being grouped among bad people.

If we wish to be among the best servants of God, it becomes easier not to be bad; however, if we wish to be slightly good, then forsaking wrongdoing will become very difficult. If we wish to taste the sweetness of His proximity, then the tastes of this world become bitter for us, but if we want to carry out our servitude just to dischrge our obligations, committing sins will become sweeter and sweeter for us. It is for us to decide and we are free to choose either of them.

Unless we think of God as merciful, we cannot supplicate to him, rely on Him and trust in him, and therefore we will not be able to live in tranquillity and safety. God is merciful towards us beyond our imagination. To realize the mercifulness of God, we are in need of contemplation more than experience, and after contemplation we need remembrance and suggestions.
