🔲 Religion tells us to control our minds ourselves.
🔲 Why do you let an external factor grab your attention?!
👉🏼 #ControllingMyMind (5)
➖A person who constantly overeats is harming himself and is called an overeater. But people don’t usually use bad terms about a person who constantly uses devices that attract a person’s attention, such as the TV, Internet, etc. Because this still isn’t considered to be bad behavior. But the harm and evil from these is much more than overeating!
➖Psychologists say, “If a person watches too much TV, he’ll become foolish.” Listening to a story on the radio is much better than watching a TV serial, because it involves more mental activity and your mind won’t become so lazy.
➖Today, there are different tools to attract people’s #attention, and this is truly an insult to people! It is as if they are saying, “Let me decide what you think about!” Why should an external factor grab your attention?!
➖The best moments for worshiping are at dawn when you are #alone. In fact, many places in religion refer to “controlling one’s mind,” such as “Dhikr [remembering God].” Dhikr means controlling one’s mind and is the opposite of “Ghiflah [negligence],” which means not being able to control one’s mind due to an inability to focus. Imam Sadiq (as) said, “The root of straying is Ghiflah, and the root of guidance is Dhikr.” [Misbah al-Shari’a, vol. 1, p. 55]
➖Many think since this world is instantaneous and sweet, it causes us to fall in love with it. But since the Hereafter is a promise for the future and we have not tasted its sweetness yet, we don’t fall in love with it. This is very wrong!
➖Since this world’s Dhikr is constantly in our mind and we remember it more, we love it. Since we do not remember the Hereafter very much, we do not love it that much.
➖ #ImamSadiq (as) said, “When you love something, do not think about it or remember it very much because this may destroy you.” [Kafi, vol. 6, p. 459] This world being instantaneous does not ruin a person; it is the Dhikr of this world that ruins one. How can you expect the Hereafter, a promise for the future, to cause you to grow without thinking about it and remembering it?!

🔲 Awaken your good points with the help of your thinking.
🔲 If you leave your thoughts to wander freely, they will go astray.
👉🏼 #ControllingMyMind (6)
➖A person usually wants something more when he/she doesn’t have it. Sometimes he can’t even think of anything else. A person who keeps thinking and concentrating on what he doesn’t have will become obsessed.
➖Imam Hasan (as) said, “If you want something from the world but don’t get it, imagine that this wish never came to your mind.” [Kashf al-Ghumma, vol. 1, p. 572] He also said, “I encourage you to #think constantly and deeply, because thinking is the foundation for every goodness.” [Tanbih al-Khawatir, vol. 1, p. 52]
➖“A believer is drowned in thinking,” Imam Ali (as) said. [Nahj al-Balaghah, wisdom no. 333] In the same way that the ability to #concentrate needs practice, #thinking well also needs practice. If you leave your thoughts to wander freely, they will go astray. When some people think, they think of longings, jealousy, greed, and plans that will destroy them. Never busy your mind with thoughts about what you do not have!
➖Controlling one’s mind entails at least five tasks that you should be able to do:
1. Think and pay attention to any subject that you choose, not any subject that grabs your attention.
2. Think for as long as you want about any subject you choose
3. Think deeply about one subject, and this is difficult to do
4. Distract your thinking from any subject you don’t wish to think about, e.g., if others pull your thinking to a topic, be able to stop thinking about it.
5. Not allow vain or evil thoughts to attract your thinking for you to need to divert your thinking later on.
➖You should be able to not allow your #attention to be pulled toward anything without your permission. You should think good thoughts and look from a positive angle at things that usually bring bad thoughts and distract you. These are skills the prophets had! Some of the Disciples came across a dog’s carcass. The first thing that caught their attention was its stench, but Prophet Jesus (as) said, “It has such white teeth!” [Tanbih al-Khawatir, vol. 1, p. 117]
