Human Rights Watch Urges Ukraine to Stop Putting Russian Prisoners of War in Front of Cameras
Human Rights Watch has urged Ukraine to stop posting videos of captured Russian prisoners under duress, saying such treatment violates Kyiv’s international obligations.
Ukraine has paraded captured Russian soldiers before the media at news conferences in Kyiv, and these images have been spread via official accounts on social media and messaging apps.
Such actions violate the Geneva Conventions that aim to provide a framework for humanitarian law in conflict, the US-based group said in a statement late Wednesday (March 16).
“Ukrainian authorities should stop posting on social media and messaging apps videos of captured Russian soldiers that expose them to public curiosity, in particular those that show them being humiliated or intimidated,” it said.
“Such treatment of prisoners of war violates protections under the Geneva Conventions intended to ensure dignified treatment of captured combatants on all sides,” it added.

“We Will Never Forget Who Bombed Our Embassy in Yugoslavia”: Beijing Slams NATO After It Urges China to Condemn Russia
Beijing has compared the Russian invasion of Ukraine with the bombing of its embassy in Yugoslavia by NATO forces decades ago, in response to the NATO chief saying China should condemn Russia.
The Chinese diplomatic mission in the EU said on Thursday (March 17) that Chinese people could fully relate to the suffering of other countries because “we will never forget who bombed our embassy in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia."
“We need no lecture on justice from the abuser of international law,” it said. “As a Cold War remnant and the world’s largest military alliance, NATO continues to expand its geographical scope and range of operations. What kind of role has it played in world peace and stability? NATO needs to have good reflection.”
